doesnt it only activate on the highway? And i dont think it would sound any different at all its still the same pistons i mean only one fires at a time anyway. Im 95% sure it never activates during daily driving whatsoever all you ever hear about is it switches off seamlessly on the highway to improve highway mileage

IMO, gm is just sticking to the traditional stategy of underating the power to not steal sales from other brands, i.e. the CTS-V. my guess is 362hp is what it will put to the wheels. F-body is a good example of that, 310hp advertised and that wasn't unusual to see to the ground on most of them.

Yeah, DoD activates above 20 (I think) and below 70 (again I think) if you are cruising.

I am definitely on the fence about the G8. I don't care for the interior at all. I like the specs on it, but would prefer 400hp. I think I will wait out the first model year in any event. I think they are moving the car to be made in Canada in like 2 years anyway, so it may change again.

No HUD really sucks (to me anyway).

Even dynoing 310WHP is good for about 380 at the flywheel figuring a 20% drivetrain loss. Thats not that shabby. So figure 310WHP on a 4000lb vehicle should be good for a 13.6 @ maybe 99-100. Thats stuff we can live with no problem. I'm thinking for around $1k you could have a hell of a 4 door that would run mid 12s. Not to bad at all.

I'd like to see the GXP version compete with the SRT8s in terms of 1/4 and ET.

Guys remember the G8 has already been on sale as a commodore SSV in Australia for half a year now. Its essentially the exact same car you guys will get. And lucky for you, you also get our spec suspension which you will enjoy. Over here the cars get the L98 motor. US spec G8's are said to get L76 with DOD functional. We had L76's in the previous model cars but the hardware wasn't activated. There were some problems with the lifters and Holden over here removed the DOD ones and fitted normal lifters to all effected cars.

The L98 easily cracks out 400+HP with a simple tune. Its quite funny actually as our HSV's (Holden Special Vehicles) run LS2's and the L98 is continually outperforming them in the aftermarket scene over here.

Either way those that are skeptical about the G8 and want to hold off need not be. Its a good car. And I'll stand up and say that in the future you guys will agree with me that its better than any saloon the US has ever produced. But thats not a hard feat. At least Pontiac hasn't taken to this Holden doner car with the ugly stick. We laugh at the GTO styling over here. But the G8's aren't to bad at all.

I find it interesting that the HSV spec LS2 is rated higher than the US LS2.
US LS2 = 400hp
HSV LS2 = 412hp

Heard the same rumor, I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Yeah, I just hope they put the top model (GXP) on sale the first year instead of holding it back a year or two.
