This is what Holden intended
I am an Aussie in the US. I was at the 1998 Sydney motorshow when they first unveiled the Monaro (Pontiac GTO). It was built by a group of Holden Engineers & mechanics with the permission of their boss (not as a project from upper management) to showcase the team skills and was basically a 2-door Holden Commodore.
HRT (Holden Racing Team) and HSV (Holden Special Vehicles) went one step further and used their experience with the Australian Touring Series and produced the Monaro HRT 427 concept car which was going to be the Flagship and be in the same league as Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche. The concept car met all expectations. Unfortunately this release failed as they could not meet the price demands for the limited production of 50 cars...
Now if the US market had been targetted....
