Default GTO's known for rear diff leaks?

I've owned more F-bodies than I care to count, possibly looking at GTO's for wife, found decent 04, the rear looked like it had been leaking for a long time, oil residue all over under trunk. had 49K on it. just wondering if this is a know issue, simple diff gasket or bigger halfshaft seal type problem...

No diff issues, stub/half shaft couplers do spit grease out. It isn't a major issue though.

Or the vent tube on top may be off and it'll spray some upwards under high speed.
No known issues that I know of.

i have looked at many gto's here in okc at our club. and not a one spits out fluid. mine is a 04 and it still has a dry diff with nearly 85000 miles on it. and been cammed plus boltons since 62000 miles, and many track times. oh how i love my car!!!!

I've heard of several GTOs that have leaked through the pinion seal. The diff fluid gets on the drive shaft and gets slung around.

My car had that issue, new pinion seal installed and no further issues.

I've heard of more breakage due to power, but not minor leaking...

Mine leaks. I did put synthetic in it though. I can also live with it rather than changing seals.

My pinion seal failed at 36,000 miles. The pax side had a little oil residue/dirt around the stub area, but it was not significant.

I've also seen maybe a dozen other posts on GTO forums about pinon seal failures.

The factory specs call for synthetic.
