New GTO owner Hello everyone, this past monday I traded in my 2006 grand prix gxp for a 2005 m6 GTO. I think I got a pretty good deal, $16k with 25k miles. I am getting married next month so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions for mods on a budget? I have been looking around and cant figure out where to start. Suggestions????? My mod budget for this year is around 1k. If you want to see pics I posted a couple on the ls4 forum under the Goodbye ls4, hello ls2 thread. Thanks for your help! |
check into some LTs. |
^^^^agree....LT's are the first step if your mods are for performance. |
Well, I wont be able to afford kooks. after a search i have seen mixed reviews on obx and pacesetter. I am leaning toward pacesetter. Any thoughts? I also saw that pacesetter only makes them in 1 3/4 to a 3 inch collector. Is there really that much of a difference between that and a 1 7/8? What kind of numbers can I expect to see? |
If it is running on the stock suspension then I would suggest replacing the radius rod bushings, cross member bushings, diff bushings, front sway bar frame bushing, front end links, rear sway bar and the frame bushings and have fun. I loved my GTO and to this day wish it did not get totalled out. The G8 GXP was a nice trade off though in the end. |

I would do Pacesette long tubes 1 3/4 since your N/A and it would be your first mod. You dont need 1 7/8 headers now. Exaust followed by suspension work would be my choice. But welcome to heard man this is just my 0.2cents. |
i put kooks 1 7/8 a torquer v2 cam and custom 3" exhaust on my car as some of my first mods and picked up 90 RWHP. save your money and do those three together and you will have a shit eating grin every time you drive it :) |
interesting... i have been thinking about doing the same thing. Im just getting tired of this car. I have to sell if first though. Hopefully i will be on here soon. good luck with the gto man! |
@ monte, I did it because I dont need it as a daily driver anymore. It was a great decision, I forgot what it was like to be pushed instead of pulled! Completely different driving experiance, DO IT!!!!!!!! |
WELCOME! Any pics? |
Would you still recommend those 3 mods together if you were daily driving it? 90hp gain sounds nice. Estimated price of those mods + install? I'll be in the same boat as the OP in a few weeks I think (new stock 05 or 06 GTO). Im guessing it would be good to get a tune as well after them correct? do these have a huge affect on the gas mileage? the one i drove around was getting about 22mpg which was surprisingly not that bad. |
3 Attachment(s) here are some pics |
Beautiful car man....I also agree with the rest. LT's and a tune. If you want to go less expensive, just buy replacement mufflers and x-pipe to replace the resonator in the exhaust. Probably what I'm going to do until I get a cam and go 3" full exhaust |
If i could do it all over again i would def go LT's for the 1st mod.. Then MT DR's.. and stall.. yes in that exact order lol |
Nice, I was wondering whether to get a stall or LT's first^^ |
Ported LS2 manifold along with LT's then suspension... |
