Cool Looking at getting a 6.0 GTO

Hey guys. I should be on this site alot more after I purchase a GTO. Anyways I have been looking at alot of GTO's lately and the 1/8 mile times do not impress me. I want to know what it takes to get an 8.4 out of a goat with street tires. I currently have a 2001 Mustang GT and I run consistent 8.8's at 80mph in the 1/8. I know a GTO will trap higher but I love stoplight racing and getting out of the hole fast. What are you guys running in your 6.0 Goats stock?

I can tell you one thing that a stock GTO will run better than 8.8s. Get an auto and put a stall and drag radials on it and it will run like you want it to.

not really sure but beating a Mustang is no problem. They usually get out a little but not fot long. GTO is quite a bit heavier and you cannot launch too hard or too much wheel hop will result.

I ran 8.7 my first time out in my a4 6.0. The engine was a bit heatsoaked, it was near 80 degree's out, and I had a not so stellar 2.0 60'. That's stock. I could drop a couple tenths in better weather, and with a better 60'. Not sure what your GT has done to it compared to what a 2005+ GT runs, but stock for stock, I let one get a jump on me and realed him in pretty quickly up only till about 70 mph. I'm coming from a truck that ran 8.7's in great weather, and this car just feels worlds faster. I don't think you would be disappointed at all

I reel in the 05+ GT's easily. I want a 6 speed GTO. I'm sure with some suspension mods I could get rid of that wheel hop. As long as it is just as fast on bottom end I am cool. I work at a Chevy place and have driven the new Camaro SS's and my car is much stouter below 60. I figured the GTO might be better out of the hole

You'll need to work on the wheel hop, but good tires and cv axles along with some shocks and springs and it will help considerably.

There is always the driver mod, and GTO owners seem to be lacking in it. Mostly because these car are so cheap and stupid punk kids are buying them that should really be looking at mustangs instead

I haven't ran my 04 GTO yet but I have made numerous passes with my 06 Mustang. Best 1/8 mile on street tires is 8.68 at 81. Best run on M/T E.T streets is 8.368 at 81.xxx. The tracks density altitude was about 2500'. Mods were tune/intake, comp cams and a few other things. The car put down 322 hp/ 317 tq. No my 04 GTO should be faster as it puts down 390 hp to the wheel.

I ran 8.71@80 in my GT. I know the GTO should be faster. I pick it up on Monday. I am so excited.

A lot of "good drivers" are humbled when they take a GTO to the track. It isn't like some cars where you just mash the gas. A LS2 GTO is capable of running 8.4 stock but it may take some seat time. My LS1 ran a 8.6x 1/8th when she was stock but I've seen a lot of LS2s run 9.x+

+2^^^^This AUTOMATIC ls2 has really humbled me. I don't have years of track experience, but I have ran probably a couple hundred times at the track in my last truck. I got 13.3 (nitrous) and 13.7 NA out of that truck, so it was quick for a 4 door. However, I took my GTO to the track twice. I have not been able to get lower then a high 2.0 60' and 13.5 at 103 (which is not great for an ls2) in warm weather. I went this last Friday for a second time. My 2nd-4th runs where with Mickey Thompson radials. Not sure why,but I could not hook up on them. Tire PSI at 20. I think my problem is I have about 150lbs off the rear of the car. I ran a 15.3 and 14.2 lol. My last run, I took off like like regular street driving with a 2.1 60' and 13.6 at 103. When I got this car, I figured I could run some of the best times that these cars have seen. However, I'm running some of the worst. I still don't understand how the radials spun that easily, and why I;m trapping 103 even with a crappy 2.1 60'. Only thing that makes me feel ok about it was an Auto 2011 5.0 and Charger SRT8 both trapped 102 when I raced them

What size are the radials^^? Also are you doing a good burnout to get them hot? No reason you should be spinning a drag radial. Another thing, a 2.0 60' is pretty much on par with what a lot of auto guys are seeing with stock cars. I saw a few high 1.9s on stock stall once i added bolt ons and a tune but 2.0 isnt spinning a heck of a lot. 2.1+ is def spinning.

1.9 off the line is pretty respectable in a stock GTO

They where 275/40 17's. They where borrowed form another member who is headered/tuned m6. He says he hooks great on them. 2.0 isn't horrible, but I can tell there is a 1.9 in it. 2.0 wasn't giving it a heck of a lot, but moderate gas. A 2.0 with a slight scratch/chirp would have been better, but it was just a moderate/light take off. Even the guy who let me borrow his radials thought it was very odd I was spinning them. I was heating them up good, they where smoking all the way to the line....I wish I could figure it out. I just want a 13.3 in this warmish weather....Doesn't my MPH seem low? 103?
