Camshafts
I'm new to this whole modifying engines and working on cars thing. So I would like some help and ideas for a good Street cam I might take the car to the track a couple times, but not often. The car is pretty much gonna be a daily driver but I am looking to make a little more horsepower than the ls1's 350. I don't want anything to brutal but I do like choppy idle and maybe 20-40 horsepower out of it, so any suggestions would be great!

Good post!
Jake, just pick out an off the shelf cam that everyone else uses, and have someone put it in for you. Go on youtube and search for something along the lines of "cammed ls1" Granted you're not going to get the most performance/streetability while chasing a certain sound, but like you said, you're not going to take it to the track.

I added a FTI StreetSweeper HT cam to my stock head car with LTs and ran it like that for 5 years before upgrading heads. With just my Svede intake, SS HT can, SLP LTs and 80mm TB I dropped my ETs to 12.3x even with horrible 60s. I was trapping 114 and should have been in the 11s. The secret is a cam like mine with a low lsa (111) that put the torque band down lower in the RPM band. The other secret is doing or finding a great tune. So many people complain about or ignore low RPM bucking when a great tune will eliminate that with even a less tame cam. There aren't that many great tuners despite the hype from people that don't know the difference.

The key to a tame-driving car is more in the tune than the cam, providing you're not going donkey dong with it. The price of a cam doesn't vary by that much, so if you're not going for an all-out ***** to the wall build, a popular off-the-shelf grind will work great. I went with a Texas Speed Torquer V2 on a 112 LSA- pretty big for that same idea, just a power bump and sound, but I love it. Great sound, and with a good tune, drives just fine.
Do an oil pump and timing chain while you (or your installer) are in there. No reason not to.

SS HT cam as mentioned above is an awesome cam and makes great power! There's an NSSP cam and springs for sale at ls1gto.com right now that is also proven to make great power and retain excellent drivability!
Also as mentioned a good tune is imperative!!! Good luck in your search..
