Firebird Formula For 2004 GTO (just Curious)
I'm just curious about this question. I'm actually considering doing it but I need someone's opinion. also I would like to know if this is a fair deal.
A few days ago, I saw a GTO for sale at a car lot for $7995. so I went to go check it out and it seems like a pretty good car to buy. everything seems okay with the car, so I'm considering buying it. It has 140k miles on it and run great. it stock (I believe) and everything seems pretty okay with it. The problem Im having is whether I want to sell/ trade in my car to get the GTO. I have a 2001 Pontiac Firebird Formula In Excellent Condition. it runs great and there's nothing wrong with that either. Everything is stock and has 104k miles on it. the car looks amazing. The only problem with it is the Passenger side window doesn't function and the passenger headlight doesn't flip up and down properly.
Does this seem like a fair trade? should I sell my car and buy the GTO? Is my Car worth the same amount as the GTO? Should I just keep my car?
Any Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and have a good day.

Depends on what you plan on doing with the car. I have owned both. Just got out of a built 06 gto last yr. Now back into a 2000z28. If you plan on leaving either car stock and just mainly cruise in it and haul people in it once in awhile, then I would get the gto.
If you like to have fun and taking corners once in awhile and plan on modding alittle then I would keep the firebird. It's lighter handle's better.
comparing the gto to the firebird is like comparing women. Some are built for comfort and some are built for speed. I decided I like the one's built for speed.
my 06 gto.
when I had both. speed and comfort.
my new one. She will be much faster by summer.

LOL i like how you made that comparison... I might go with the gto. I can always go back to and F body if i dont like it.
In comparison, what didn't you like about the gto and what didn't you like about the firebird?
ps. I love those pictures of your cars. The look Great.

Had both. The fBod is lighter, It's better for DR with a different rear end, tells everyone for 4 square blocks you're a racer-car, cheap looking, has a crappy ride and sounds (not the engine) like a bucket of bolts. The GTO is heavier, corners great with an upgraded suspension due to IRS, subtle styling or grown-up (take your choice), fantastic interior and seats and has a very taut yet smooth ride. It's also a lot easier to get in and out of as well as carry 4 real people. Anyone that wants to be a boy-racer is better off with the fBod. A nice, rare touring car that can still kick *** the goat.

I've heard the "heavier" comment a few times in this post now which is fine but does anyone know by how much? Just curious because im thinking 250-300lbs tops right? I could be wrong but 50 of those lbs are in the heavy stock 17s or 18s whichever model year you have compared to the much lighter 16s on the t/a. In either case most owners end up changing out the wheels on both cars which swings that weight in the gto's favor. My car weighs 3540 w/o me in it with some simple weight reduction done.
You are asking this question in gto section so obviously im a bit partial to the gto in just about every aspect besides launching at the drag strip and cornering. I've out 60 footed a lot of camaro's and t/a's with a little practice though. Backseats are as close to non existent as possible in the fbods too. If you test drive the gto you'll be sold. I would agree with others to go for lower mileage though.

I loved the gto, I just wasn't big on the looks. My wife compared it to a cavalier..lol
I liked the comfortable ride the gto had. at 150mph. it was smooth as silk.
I did put it on a diet and w/bigs and littles I had it down to 3420 w/0 driver.
It was fast. 12.0 at 114 on motor and 11.3 at 124 on n20. and pulled a 1.62 60ft. launching at 5k on a monster stage 4 clutch. and stock irs. Here's a run of me running a terminator when I was on motor w/just cam and headers. before heads.
I just wanted to get back into the fbody to get the weight alittle lighter. Plus modding it is cheaper on the fbody. And more aftermarket for it.
Plus I love the way the fbody handles. It's alot more fun driving.
I don't care much for the heavy doors on the fbodies, but I can overlook the little stuff. My yellow ta was a h/c/i LT1 best it ran was a 12.8 on motor. I had way too big of a cam in it, wasn't getting in it's powerband.
You can't go wrong either way, but I think you will miss your fbody.

I've never seen a late model GTO for under $10k. That was a $32,000 car brand new.

The higher mileage '04s are getting into the >10k range here and there. They were 33K cars new and some people paid too much for them when they first came out...by the later years there were deals to be had. My '06 w/ the M6 and 18s was 25K.
I have a WS6 and a GTO...both are fun to drive. The GTO is more of a "touring" car that is fairly quick stock and has a great interior and real back seats. The WS6 is more of a "raw" car that handles better, but the overall fit and finish is lacking. Stock for stock it's a drivers race.
The F-body is cheaper to mod overall...motor mods are the same $$ but everything else you pay the "GTO tax". But, the GTO is way easier to work on...the motor isn't under the cowl.
Tough choice...some guys go from F-body to GTO and never look back, others go back to F-body and vice-versa. I'm just glad I'm lucky enough to have both because driving each car still brings a smile to my face.
