Default Tires to hook up for 06 GTO

My Dad recently bought a 2006 GTO it's very fun, but every time we get on it the *** end gets loose and we know it needs different tires to hook up, what could we get away with for stickies on stock wheels? in the future we will be looking at bigger wheels, but for now would just like to buy a set of rear tires so she can hook up. thanks!

You will be fine and money way ahead with BFG KDW2's, especially on a stock car.

I run nitto nt555r's as my street tire, decent hook and even though they're a drag radial I usually get at least 8 thousand miles out of them

06Spice My Dad's is the base model 06, with the 17" stock wheels. What size are your tires? and did you have to do anything special to your car to make them fit? Your help would mean a lot and be very appreciated man!

They are a 245/40/18, i did nothing just mount and balance. I really am not a fan of rolling or cutting fenders! They are $275 a pop on summit that was the best price ive seen.

There are a ton of G8 guys using the 17" GTO wheels forthe track. Most run a 275/40/17. That may be a bit wide for street use on those rims, so maybe a 245 or so.

Default tractiooooon...

Here are some tires that will get the job done.... Nitto nto1 and NT05 / Hankook Ventus R-S3 / Dunlop Direzza Z11 / Micky Thompson DR.

Probably the one tire that will cost the list and have the must traction out there today for the money is Sumitomo HRZ 111 .

Except possibly M&H drag radials, they are at least the equal of Mickey Thompson's if not slightly better.

Probably an outdated answer but I'd suggest nitro 555r. The Nt05 is prolly more street daily friendly

Any of you guys DD on the 555R? If so, how do you like it? How is highway speeds while raining?

Only set I hav ehad is on my turbo buick and I didn't ever have to drive it in the rain as I had a super duty to drive as well.

I use 555r's as my dd tire. I have driven it the rain on only just two occassions (fortunately I have my truck for bad weather). As long as I was easy on the throttle, I had no issues. They are a great street tire IMO and I was able to get around 9,000 miles out of the last set.

I drove on 555Rs in snow and they worked. Honestly they are good in the rain, same tread design as the 555. Tread life? That's subjective. I know guys that have gotten 8K out of them, I know guys that have gotten 22-25K out of them. It depends on driving style. I'd say for a DD you can get 15-20K easily, just keep them at 22psi so they wear even and you're good to go
