Any GTO's run at the track with drag radials? 60ft times? I'm wondering what is possible on the stock suspension for 60ft times without breaking something. So far I've got 4.11 gears with a trutrac posi, stock axles and a 1 piece aluminum driveshaft. Was running 275 11.5 17 MT ET Streets. I had a 1.7 60ft but I'm hoping for 1.5 and was wondering if it is possible. If so, I might have a chance at getting into the 10's. Not sure if drag bags would help or not and I could probably benefit from letting the clutch out a little faster since I didn't even start to spin the tires at all. Any help would be appreciated. |
Well, get ready to split that lsd open and twist your stubs at some point. Trutrac looks pretty, but uses low grade material, is made overseas and the planetary worm gears are weak. In addition, there are stub locating issues with it. I'd look at a modded oem lsd or the other helical style different on the market. Stock stubs are a mild steel with a solid heat treat. The outside is hard as a rock, the inside is like butter. The twist fairly easy with good traction. If they break in the Trutrac side gear, they can take the whole lsd out. |
Factory LSD fitted with 4.1:1 gears. Factory tailshaft Nolathane bushes 4 point camber kit Tein coilovers Several 1.52 60' on factory 18" x 8" wheels with Mickey Thompson 265/40/18 drag radials |
Stubs and axles can snap easily if you hook hard. I've seen it happen several times. |
Thanks for the input. I've got a spare stock 3.46 diff with axle stubs if something happens to this one (although I hope it doesn't). I figured the axles are the weak point with the slop they have in them. If they break, I will be going with the gforce axles to replace them. Was just wondering if it's possible. |
If you're looking for mainstream parts, I'd look to the dss- trust me. Neither make the best driveline parts available for the GTO, but one stands out as doing better than the other. I've installed many parts from both. |
Anyone try cryo treating a factory or trutrac diff? |

You could throw some drag bags in the stock springs and get some Koni shocks to help. Or get some Lovells or King springs for the rear with some koni shocks. And of course anti wheel hop axles and stubs. I might try what some people do and only buy one anti wheel hop axle for the right side. |
