Default Trunnion Upgrade - Which One?

Hello.

I am thinking of doing the trunnion bearing upgrade on my stock LS2 in my 2006 GTO. Which is the best to go with? Comp Cams, Summit Racing, or Harland Sharp?

I have read of some people having problems with the Comp Cams with the lock rings sometimes breaking. The Summit Racing ones are cheaper and look to have stronger locking rings. I have read nothing but good things about the Harland Sharps but they seem to be twice as expensive as the Comp Cams.

Or is this even worth doing on a stock engine? And I do entend to keep the engine internals stock.

I use the comps. I think a lot opf the problems are due to installation errors. There are a few places that offer a swap program. Ed Curtis being one of them.

I've heard the ones from Brian Tooley are better than the ones you can get from anywhere else.

Just anecdotal but all of the failures I've seen were Comp. I used Harland Sharpe about 5-6 years ago.

The PAC-KS030 trunnion kit is exactly the same as the Tooley kit... It even gives an extra bearing/ heavy duty snap rings just like Tooley.

HS had the best kit when I researched this a few years ago. It's the one I have.

The Harland Sharp kit is twice the price of the Comp/ Tooley kits and adds nothing but 2 washers to each rocker. The Tooley kit is the best for the money and has heavy duty snap rings/ install tool.

The center area is machined out and lightweight. IIRC, there was better oil access too. Comp kit didn't have this. I can't remember the price difference, but I got a good deal and tech support on a phone order-hard to find these days.

It is exactly the same as the Comp/ Tooley kit's except it's twice the price: http://www.harlandsharp.com/conv_kit.htm

Not exactly the same, similar. There is some engineering differences. For one the stupid little washers may seem like nothing but may be one of the reasons I've never seen a HS failure posted but quite a few of the others. I bought my HS a long time ago and I don't think they were that much then.

Do you happen to know the replacement intervals?

Take a closer look, the trunnion is hollow VS the other. I'm not sure about the washer deal, but there were washers included.

I saw that they use hollow trunnions, but IMHO, they are not worth double the price. I wish someone would knock-off the CHE bronze bushings/trunnion kits. I don't like needle bearings in rockers and the bronze bushed rockers would give some warning of an impending failure before it happens.

The bushes deal is neat. I may look into that myself. I think I could make some very nice kits. The problem is time and R&D money. Just copying a design will never satisfy how I operate.

We recommend O.E. rocker arms on the LS engines.
We have found the low mile or new O.E. parts are adequate for 99% of the builds we do here. As long as your camshaft lift does not require more travel than the O.E. rockers they will be fine.
We offer some rocker braces to replace the factory "flimsy" parts to aid in some valve train stability.

I wish that you would. CHE wants $460 for their bushings/trunnions + shipping both ways.

I'll find a way to make it better and likely the price won't change much or go up; that's just a guess.

Just look at my clutch master, no way I can offer it as cheap as the competition. You truly pay for what you get to in that case. Then again, you can't compare the CHE kit quality with my competition, it's a well engineered solution from what I know.

Their bronze alloy sure is the best, but I wish it didn't cost so much.
