Default The differential adventure begins

The pumpkin arrived out to Mike after the long journey to California. Shipping 93# 2,200 miles ain't cheap. Mike got a look-see at it today. I knew one adjuster was shot and all of the posi bolts were sheared off. The other adjuster turned out to be jammed so that one needs replacing too and I need an adjuster locking tab. So far only the case and Harrop are re-usable.

Now I'm looking for a 05/06 pinion yoke. It seems the stroker is a torque monster and I need a beefier propeller.

So it begins

The inside was filled with a handful of metal shavings. I'd already scooped most of it out before I sent it

The one side adjuster has mushroomed into the housing and made nice little slivers of metal. I guess it took grinding and some work to get it out

The bolts were all sheared off, everything shifted and ground into the bearings and adjuster and the LSD was split into pieces

DAMN!!! It won't ever give you problems now...
I split a pinion gear in 3 places along the teeth a few years back, it stayed together but busted teeth off the ring gear in 4 places.

I cured that propeller yoke problem by getting a one piece D/S made and swapped the weak assed trans and diff yokes to U-joint style. The initial cost was a little painful but no more worries now. Hopefully Mike can salvage it for you.

This will likely be your last Dance in the diff department from what I can tell. These cars are painfully expensive up front.. Gears, harrop, stubs, lsd.. easy $3k there if going with the good ****. In the end, no issues and just enjoying the car, the payout is soon forgotten.

Good luck with your build.

Default Bare Naked Rear End ****

Picture of the bare naked rear end and Harrop cover. It's now all cleaned up and ready for the build up. Still having problems finding a 05/06 diff yoke and there are axle problems but it's moving in the right direction.

I think we have it handled now but thanks. It's been repainted a pretty red and is waiting for the Wavetrac to get there tomorrow.

I've got 3-4 of these things laying around now, whats the cost to get one set up so I can stop blowing them up? The road course is eating them up quicker than the drag strip did!

I've got 1 with 3.91's and a spool for the drag strip and another stock one that was howling like a SOB, and a third one in the car stock that is chattering around turns now. You interested in just the case and side adjusters or looking for everything?

I'm always after everything, except the gears and lsd usually. You don't really need a Spool these days, lsd options are plentiful and great for dragstrip btw.

Sounds like a small collection

If you don't turn in parking lots or take slow, tight corners and don't mind the tire wear. I think it depends on what you're looking for. I wanted a street car that was fast not a track car that sometimes ran on the street. What posi's have you blown out?

Jon, that's a horrible idea in all but a trailered drag car.The increase in load wears out all kinds of things and the bumps through turns is super irritating. That's a redneck solution to say the least..

Don't feed into all the ls1gto **** you've read, almost all diff and Master info is way wrong over there. The stupidity and erroneous info is amazingly common.

If you rebuild, get the proper lsd, proper builder and be done with it. Only thing left is to enjoy.

Have they fixed the Wavetrac stub retention issues? I know that Frank (DSS) was looking at it, but I never saw any resolution posted.

Jon, there has been a fix to stub issues for years. Where have you been?
