2004 GTO power at starter relay none at so;enoid
 

2004 GTO 200,000 miles intermitant problem has become perminant car will not crank with key battery full charged starter relay is grounding as it should but when 30 and 87 are connected still no power going to starter solenoid. If I jump across power to terminal on solenoid car will crank up and run. Are there any more safety switches between starter relay and solenoid. The wire from 87 terminal does not go straight to solenoid

When servicing the vehicle with the VIN you entered, the following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the described symptoms.

Condition/Concern:

A no start situation with the 2004 Pontiac GTO. This concern appears to be a dead battery but is traced to a circuit open in the steering column. A purple wire in the ignition switch has been found to be backing out, resulting in a no start. When the wire pushes out of the connector, the vehicle displays the same symptoms of a Flat Battery.

Recommendation/Instructions:

To fix the problem, you need to:
•Remove the steering column upper and lower cover.
•Remove the (black) connector backing cover.
•Pry open the wire retaining tang.
•Push the wire back into the connector until it snaps into place securely.
•Fit the connector back into the cover and reassemble all previous components.
All GTOs built after 3/10/04 and VIN L250294 have been checked and certified to be without this concern.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
