Default GTO rear end manual vs auto

I’ve got two wrecked goats, one manual, one auto, and I’m just curious if one rear end is stronger than the other? I know they might have different gearing but I’ve not found anything that says they’re different rear ends other than gearing.

I’m just remembering how C4 corvettes used the Dana 36 for autos and the 44 for manuals. Big difference in the two.

They are the same... 3.46. Only difference is the '05-06 got a slightly bigger pinion shaft...

There are identical. The 05 uses a larger drive shaft, 2 1/4 inches instead of 2". The pinion shafts are the same while the driveshaft flange is larger. If you but an 04 diff in an 05, just change the flange. The diff is also the same for manual and automatics.

While both start out being identical, the diff from the manual car has probably been beat on a little harder, because the autos were not nearly as bad about wheelhop as the stick shift cars.
