Dyno numbers for 2004 A4 w/ 450 miles
#21
my wifes 04 dynoed 290rwhp and 300rwtq on a mustang dyno stock and 300rwhp and 311rwtq with a tune and K&N CAI. I think it has about 3000 miles on it now oh yeah and it is an a4

Due to some unkown variances, I couldn't get a consistent reading, but my first (and best pull) was 291/309...M6 with about 750 miles on it, bone stock.
Just switched to Mobil 1 (did my 500 mi. oil change at 800 mi.) and added NGK TR55 plugs...runs even smoother now. Will baseline shortly before H/C gets here.

No power...
Low Dyno Numbers...
My A4 got 267 RWHP and 282 RWTQ on the dyno the other day....
I need to find out if that was SAE corrected but the numbers seem to be like 15 off from most of the other cars I have seen.
It was warm and the car had been running at least 10 min. before the first pull and was never cooled down between pulls. I am not sure how much that effects the dyno numbers. This was also done on a dynojet. The car was stock.
My air fuel mix was ~11.9:1 so I know it can be run better numbers with just some tuning.
Should I go ahead a swap sparkplugs and wires?
Thanks

Makes me more than a bit suspicous about the 290-300 rwhp stock A4 claims I've seen out there. Whatever... here's what mine did today.

I got 310.4 rwhp and 326.8 the only mods were the duel exit banshee exhaust from borla and ram air and if i'm correct I'm not really sure if you would notice the ram air on a dyno.
But I would say you should let the car break in a little ...I have 4000 miles on mine.
Just last week I did a whole slew of mods.
good luck

CHarris, what method did you use to break in the engine? Did you baby it for the first couple hundred miles, or did you run it hard? This has been known to have an affect on how LS1's dyno. You'll pick up at least another 10 hp over the next 5K miles, too.

I'm not in any way worried about my dyno numbers. I posted up exactly what I dynoed just to add to the knowledge of what the cars do stock. It had 450 miles and was at 199 miles when I got it from the dealership.
I'm not even sure why I'm explaining this.... My dyno numbers are bone stock. No tuning, no CAI, no catback, no plugs, no wires, no nothing. "Bone Stock" means untouched. Some of the higher numbers posted by A4's are not stock. If you compare to these non stock numbers you may be misled. It is true that different cars will dyno different numbers on different dynos.
It is also true that not everything is as it seems. Some people have different interpretations of stock. I've defined mine.
The real purpose of dynoing for me is to know what the car is doing right now. Before I mod, I will make another run a day of two before I make the change so I can compare accurately. If the car picks up horsepower between now and that first dyno, great. If it doesn't that's fine too. In any event I will know exactly what the change was worth on my car at the dyno that I use. If anyone else wants to look to my numbers for comparison purposes, that is great. I'm not selling anything and I'm not a dyno racer looking for bragging rights. I'm just adding to the knowledge base.

Thank you. Lots of us really appreciate you and everyone else that are willing to post dyno results. Certainly give us a reality check and eliminates all the overly optimistic guesses of other owners and down right deceiving marketing ads.
