Default Which goat would u suggest 04 or 05??

My girlfriend wants a fast car, something to keep up with my WS.6. I have talked her out of an 03 Cobra. Now I'm pushing for a GTO, I know the 05's look a little cooler, but is there that much difference performance wise with the LS2? I know the used prices sure differ....what do u think?

Well, the LS2 has 50 more ponies, figure it's about half a second faster in the 1/4 mile. '05s and '06s have better brakes too. Since the GTO is heavier you'd need the LS2 to keep it as fast as a WS6.

That being said I have an '04 (LS1) and it's not slow.

Also can u hook up at all on the street with the GTO? Since my SLP mods on my WS.6 M6 I can hook up at all. Just burn it through 1st and 2nd and now well into 3rd

All years are fast. Some edge to the 05/06 because of the extra horsepower. Once mods are added it doesn't matter.

Hooking up can be tough in stock goats. Airbags and Drag radials will get you down to a 1.7 60'.

I own a 2004 GTO 6-speed. If I were buying a GTO now, I would buy a 2005. The only reason I bought a used 2004 was because they were CHEAP!

If your girl isn't a mod-freak (like us people on this site) and if she doesn't stop from 90 mph very often, she'll be totally happy with the 2004 and the extra $75-$100 saved each month. If she is a mod-freak, she'll want that extra 50 horsepower. If she stops from high speed very often, she'll want the bigger and better 05 brakes.

my mods below have given me ALOT more power then the 05/06 and given me alot of traction too! no offense, but since I've done these, I havent found a WS6 yet that I can't beat (that hasnt been modded the hell out of)!

Thanks for the advice, we test drove an 04 today, it is pretty sweet. But I feel more power in my WS.6, maybe I'm just bias. I do think that it shifts a little smoother than my car. 3rd gear seemed a little easier to slam into.

Yes, the stock shifter actually sucks. After a couple weekends at the track, an aftermarker shifter is next on the mod list...too many missed shifts. But again, if shifting fast and racing are things that your girl doesn't care about, the stock shifter is good enough.

i like the 05s way better. i drove an manual and automatic 04 before deciding on an 05 A4. i liked having the 50 extra ponies from the get go, along with the bigger and better brakes.

but the 04s can be got at a good price and really arent that bad

Price was a big factor for me, and I wanted lots of options for modding. It all depends on what's important to her.

You will do fine with either one. They are great cars and you can change the looks of the 04 fairly easily.

04's are great for the price. I'll take the interior at practially any speed. Also, the 05's up have better auto's, you'll get more mileage out of your 4l65e.

i would exclude the thoguht of giving her a 03cobra. I would think she would Break the Car before she could Learn how to drive it. They are hard Cars to Drive from the start

Very true. However, when the mod bug bites be careful. Start making a lot of horsepower and you are likely to have beef up the driveshaft, rearend, etc. I wish I had that problem...too much horsepower.

The LS2 with the 18" wheels is severely under-tired. Stock 235 width tires just don't match up well with 350 hp to the rear wheels (that's with just a tune). 17" wheels get 245 rubber stock which is a little better, but without the "bling" and the extra slight handling benefit. You can safely go to 255 on the 18" and 275 on the 17" with minor modification.
