Default I want a GTO

I have a 02 Z71 ext cab that i dearly love, but I am sick of spending $70.00 a week on gas. I have driven several GTO's and I really like them a lot. What kind of gas mileage are you guys getting with your goats?

I get about 18-20 mpg in my GTO with a mix of highway and city driving, about half highway half city.

My '04 is also for sale...

Is that on a m6 or a auto? I was thinking about buying a new one or an LS2 GTO. I would be looking for a M6.

How are you driving habits? Not trying to be wierd, just trying to figure if I would actually save any money on gas compared to my Z71.

Dont buy a GTO to save gas...seriously. Its a performance oriented grand tourer. Go buy a civic or a hybrid or TDI VW or something.

I'm averaging 17 MPG with mostly city driving....I shift around 2300 RPM, I cruise in 5th @ 40 mph and I don't leave lights aggressively....

OCCASIONALLY, I wail on the car but for the most part, I'm probably getting 85% or so of the best possible fuel economy.

On the highway, I've cruised at 70 mph and gotten 25-27 MPG after my exhaust (previously 23-24 @ 70) and even before the exhaust, I could see sustained 30-33 MPG in 6th gear at around 55-60 mph when the volume of cars slows things down a little.

I am not trying to save gas on that extreme of a level. Anything is better than 14 in the city and 17-18 highway in my truck. What kind of exhaust are you running? Nevermind, i see it in your sig

My GTO mileage is just barely better than my '00 5.3L ECSB Z71. Add in the fact that the GTO takes premium and the truck drinks the cheap stuff, the GTO is no cheaper for fuel costs. If the tune on your truck requires premium, you might consider going back to the stock tune and running 87 for a while.

That is very surprising that you GTO doesn't get much better than your truck. My truck gets around 13-14 city. My truck got worse mileage with the stock tune and I only run midgrade gas so I will be keeping my tuned pcm in there for now. How much difference do after market tunes, cai, and catbacks make on these cars as far as mileage goes?

anything that cleans up the exhaust will improve MPG.
tuning makes a huge difference too. Like I mentioned, I get 30mpg highway and thats with partial exhaust, and roots blower.

My truck doesn't drink the cheap stuff. I have a custom tuned pcm so the least octane that i can run is 89.

I spend almost all of my driving on the highway (average 400 miles per week) with my Denali that averages 14 mpg (at best) on regular gas. If I drive the same exact mileage (and same habits as well) with a car that averages 22 mpg on premium I will still come out ahead about $25/week driving the 22 mpg car even taking in consideration the premium gas.

Thats kind of what I was thinking. I really don't want to get rid off my truck but gas is going to be ridiculous this summer. I usually drive @300 miles a week in the city and I go out of town every couple of weeks. I am really trying hard to justify buying a GTO and selling my Z71.

LOL. SO am I. The problem is I live in MN, so I still would need a winter vehicle.
