Default GTO or SS/WS6/

I am looking for a new car, however I am not a fan of the SS/WS6 interior... it's kinda dated to me however I feel that the SS/WS6 is a MUCH better handling car, though I don't like the ergos of it. How much can I get a GTO for? $15,000 or less? Or should I just stick with the SS/WS6...

What are the weak spots of the GTO? If any?

Before we all go into it how about telling us how you will be using it? How many miles would you accept initially? How "vintage"?

I love the interior and ride of my GTO, but for pure straight-line drag racing I'd say go with an F-body. GTO go-fast parts are too expensive, and it's hard to fit any tire bigger than a 275 in the rear without modification of some kind.

Weak points for a gto? Stock struts, springs, trunk, not being able to get some good rubber out back, small trunk, heavy car, crazy wheel hop, paint peeling on the door handles, expensive aftermarket. Other than that its a dream to drive..... hahaha. Its a pain in the *** but I love it and I get tons of compliments.

Yeah I wrecked mine about a month or so ago and it wasn't all that bad, at least I didn't think.........the body shop had it 2 months and the bill was $8700, thank God I had insurance!!! But other than that they're are good cars.

I'd go with the GTO although I don't know if you can find one less than $15,000. Maybe a 2004?

I wouldn't own another f-body unless it was just a weekend car. Parts for them are cheap and they are pretty light. But the quality of them is crap, especially compared to a new GTO.

Good luck finding a GTO for $15,000

The 2004's have a bit less value because the 05-06's had the LS2, but do you really expect a $30,000 to drop that much in value in 1-3 years?

As an owner of both I think the GTO handles better stock for stock.

I've found a few actually... and yes, for one it didn't sell when new... second it's a Ponitac. 3 years and 40-50,000 miles later you better believe they drop that much.

i own an '04 and i've driven a 6spd ws6.. driving the ws6 was fun in straight lines, but the car just felt a lot bigger than the gto. i'm not sure which car sits lower to the ground in reality, but the gto feels a whole lot smoother around corners and feels lower.. if i'd do it again, i'd still go with my goat

Ive had a Z28, and now have my GTO. I'd say the goat handles better, but its hard to say, because i was a little less....disciplined in my driving with the F-body, and tend to baby the GTO a lot more. The F-body will hook better, but I always felt that I basically bought the car for the motor and not much else, whereas the GTO feels a lot more put together and is a better experience as a car. It's not just motor, though the LS2 is winning me over more and more each day; it's also a great interior, pretty decent sock handling (.90g, which I think is 2 or 3 points better than the f-body), and not a bad stock sound system.

It's also more fun when people in Grand Prixs think you're one of them and start ****.

hmm I 15,000 or less probably not for a GTO. Like everyone knows I bought an 04 through carmax with 23,000 miles. still cost 20 grand. it's a collectors item and it's beautiful.. I love f-bodys.. would def love to own one too. if i had more cash. but yeah i've been in z-28/ trans am's and the interior is cramp and uncomfortable. buy it all depends on what ur looking for.. with a little GTO bias.. and i haven't even seen my car.. go with the GTO. but idk for 15,000. hell suffer a lil bit more.. buy cheep beer and call it a day!

There will be no reason that during the winter and spring of the upcoming year, we'll be seeing plenty of GTO's for $15k. Sure, they'll have around 40k miles, but for that price, it's a bargain!

One thing you need to keep in mind that there are going to be a LOT of lease turn ins and trades during the next several months. With the killer incentives that were placed on these things, they aren't going to be holding value, especially the 04's.
