How Soon Will It Be...
...before we see the new GTOs being competitive other performance cars like the current generation f-bodies?
When you take into account that Callaway has been making specialty engines for Holden’s HSV group, and any number of performance specialists have plenty of experience with the base LS-1 engine, it seems clear that there’s potential for quick development of GTO specialized performance products. Consider that Callaway already has a few years of experience with the engine/chassis type with their relationship with Holden and HSV. And, they have a LS-1 based engine package that will produce 480 hp and up to 475 ft/lbs of torque that is naturally aspirated and 50 state street legal.
As I see it, the main issue that could hold back production of GTO specific ‘tweeks’ might be the small production numbers expected for the GTO. (18,000 GTO units per year vs. up to 70,000 units per year for the f-bodies) Of course, quite a few of the parts used by HSV may well be able to be directly ported to the new Pontiac platform without any further ado. (Though I’m sure the ‘air quality’ folks may have something to say about this)
This just gives me to wonder how soon it will be for the new GTO to be performance competitive with performance cars that are currently available.
My bet is that it won’t take long.

My guess is that within a month of GTO's hitting the streets we will see folks ripping them apart.
It will be interesting to see what the rearend can take powerwise.

the IRS rear might be the one thing that holds these cars back, like on the 03 cobra. oh yeh and that 3725lbs curb weight might be a problem 2. my guess is that 4th gen fbody's wont have trouble outrunning gto's for awhile, if ever
