With the GTO's weight and skinny tires, it does fine in the winter. I did great in snow, ice and slush with balding KDWS's. I'm sure the SS's I have on it now will do even better.

DD here. Great car to drive every day. I drove this winter on bald tires and it wasn't bad at all. As long as you are careful and don't do anything crazy, you can definitely drive it in the bad weather.

If you get any significant snow (4+ inches) I would recommend winter tires.

I got stuck in a 2+ inches squall in April 05 on I-90 in east Cleveland and it was a scary experience on good stock (KDWS) tires.

you guys who've been in the snow...what kind of HP numbers are you putting down

I'm looking at a blown, 540rwhp M6

perfect DD!! Long as I stay out of boost, i hope i'll be ok.

I'm sure Blizzaks are in order and maybe some steel rims or something

If you plan on DD driving that you'll need snow tires. I've driven it before on a 70 degree day and could break traction at will on the stock tires.

I make north of 450 to the wheels, and drive it every day. Blizzaks on all 4 for the winter months....stay out of boost and leave traction control on.....no problem

Do you have 16" winter rims? I have a great set of Michelin Pilot Alpins from my 2000 SS and I am looking for some 16" steel rims that fit a GTO.

you could try Fbody salad shooters with the 16's mounted on them. They will fit the rears fine, not sure about the fronts.

I run 17" ASA wheels with Blizzaks for the winter.

they are the wrong lug bolt pattern
you can get them on the car, but no self respecting tire shop will install them (and stand behind it)

The bolt pattern difference is negligable at 0.0256" (.65mm). It's not a big deal, and a lot of people do it without any problems.

I wouldn't trust it at higher speeds. There was an article in HPP about taking those wheels to a machine shop and having them machined to fit properly. Had the specs in it and everything. I think it was pretty cheap as well.
