Default sell TA for "04 GTO???

This is my prob: I have a 98 TA mostly finished, just needs paint and few other things. Paid for. I drove a 04 GTO and fell in love. Not sure which to do. Any suggestions. I ask this knowing that Im in a GTO site. LOL

I think the GTO is a better made vehicle, but they both have their ups and downs. You have to make that decision yourself. Parts are going to be cheaper for the TA in the long run....keep that in mind.

If you plan on modding the GTO like your T/A, you may be disappointed with the performance. Since the T/A is paid for, you're better off to just keep that as your toy and buy a GTO for a nice driver.

If you're going to get a Goat, get a 05 or 06

Why? You can buy an LS1 GTO and mod it out for less than an 05-06. They're easily the best bang for the buck V8 cars out there right now.

You can pick up a LS2 for less than 18k. If you're not going to mod, it's the better way to go. Even if you're planning on just boltons, it's still better to go with the LS2.

Summerwolf has LS2 envy

definitely not, I haven't run across one with similiar mods I haven't either stayed with or walked away from. My 04 dyno'd higher stock than a lot of LS2's lol....and turned the track times stock too....

Judging from him owning a modified TA I'd say hes going to modify the goat as well, and you can find a good 04 for 14-16K with fairly low miles....that could go a long way in mods. Plus, the LS1 has the LS6 intake and cable driven throttle body.....

Personally....I bought an 04 cause I wanted the car from the commercials....and I got it. I could have EASILY bought an 05 when I bought the 04, but I liked the single side exhaust and I liked the flat hood.

Well, LS2's well driven will run about 3 tenths faster stock for stock.....they have a 90MM DBW throttle body and 243 heads (C5 Z06 heads without the good valves) and they're a 364 over a 346. The only problem is....most people can't drive.....a well driven LS1 GTO will take out a poorly driven LS2 gto no problem. I've ran faster than any LS2 gto I've seen back at my home track. Right now with a couple bolt ons I ran a 13.2 @ 109 with a 2.31 60 ft.....Worst 60 ft I've cut in my life, but my best time in the GTO. Its all in the driving of these cars....most people seem to forget that.

I do not own a GTO but however I've been doing my homework on them for a while and I've also driven LS1 and LS2 cars and to say the least I wasn't dissappointed in either when comparing to my 98 Ws6.

Nor did I see much of a difference as far as I can remeber, although; I'd want to get the LS2 GTO just because how new the car itself is.

Thats funny..my buddys automatic LS2 went 13.4 at the track... your right..13.6 is faster than ANY ls2 GTO...

Where do you people come up with this garbage?

OP: I test drove GTOs and F-Bodies back to back for a year period..I was dead set on getting the GTO. The ONLY reason I have my F-Body is price...I got a STEAL on a very low mile LS1 Z28 and jumped on it or I would be driving a GTO right now.

Pros/Cons exist for each...

F-Body, Interior is worse than the GTO, rear end could be a ticking timebomb, harsh ride compared to the GTO, Monsoon system is garbage.

GTO, Rear seats are bigger but access to them is worse than the F-Body, GTO feels 'lighter' playing around on the top end... also very 'strange' in the corners... feels more comfortable with the rear end sliding than it does trying to haul down or up interstate ramps in a straight line, GTO is heavier and sometimes you can really feel it.

The performance of each are very similar (LS2 GTO vs LS1 FBody) so it's a wash really.

Honestly you need to get some seat time before you make your choice... I have a 2year daughter and I've had the Camaro the entire time.. having dealt with getting the friends kid in and out of the GTO (waiting for the seats to move out of the way) I can honestly say I'd rather have the 'no adults please' rear seats of the F-Body and the quick easy access over the bigger seats of the GTO and the SLOW power seat access.

If you don't have kids that part doesn't matter obviously.

GTO dumdumdum... I've had two, an 04 and an 05- loved both. I like the cable throttle on the 04 better. of course you can change that on an 05-6

i had an ls1gto. and in my honest opinion, ls1ta>ls2GTO>ls1gto. goats are absolute pigs. but the interior is soooooo comfy in them tho!

I guess you live where all the slow cars are. I lived in a place similar. Good luck on your LS2 killing.

I test drove a 05 a few months before getting out of the military, if I re-upped I probably would have told them to find me a six speed and they would have a sale.

I don't even think its fair to get out of a cloth interior, no optioned LT1 car and test drive one of those in my case. I suppose you in a T/A probably at least have the basic amenities I don't.

I bought an 04 GTO new in 12/04....best car I have ever owned, however, I never liked the looks of the car. It was great as a DD, drove well in the snow and the interior is excellent.

I sold the GTO for a 07 Mustng GT, did not really like the GT and sold it. I am happy with my 00 WS6 and don't plan on selling it.

I personally just love the way the f-bodies look as far as appearance, esp the T/As. Also the f-bodies are just starting to get a little scarce up where I live so it's kinda nice to have one. Those GTOs rock though and I think my next ride will be an ls2!
