Default 2016 Nissan Titan Cummins #opinions

Hey there family.... have you guys seen/heard about the new Nissan Titan truck ?
The truck market is getting better and better and more competitive.
What is your guys opinion on the truck?
I will never be able to afford one but I love looking at them. I still have a hard time believing that Nissan have got into the diesel industry. Truck has 555 ft lbs of torque and a max towing capacity of 12000 lbs..
I'm not sure of the price but would YOU buy one?
Here is some links on the truck below....

Call me an ignorant, brand loyal fanboy if you want, but when it comes to trucks, if it doesn't wear a bowtie, I ain't buying it.

Seriously I think there's a reason there hasn't been a foreign brand full size diesel offering until now. The people that drive big diesels typically aren't the same people that buy foreign cars. The only thing they have going for them is the Cummins engine, but I still don't see them being super popular on the consumer market. Now if they can under cut the big three on price, they might do a lot of commercial sales.

I think they needed to build a better chassis around the engine.

I think this truck occupies a slot between a 1500 and a 2500. It is like a mini-HD setup. The diesel drivetrain is the real deal, but stuffed into a half-ton truck. I like it, but it is still a Toyota... Foreign trucks have come a long way, but you still can't outdo the Big 3 when it comes to pickups. If I were buying a truck today, it would be either a Sierra SLT (with 6.2) or the RAM ecodiesel.

Thanks guys.... I love hearing other people outlook and opinions on the new cars/trucks.
What surprise me is that Chevy rates the 6.2 to tow 12000lbs (gasoline) and Nissan also rates the new Titan to tow 12000 lbs..... I honestly expected more since the Nissan is a diesel with more torque..
Anyway keep them comments coming :-)

Torque isn't everything. 12,000lbs is probably the safe limits of the 1/2 ton chassis for both. The heavy duty trucks don't just get bigger engines to get those monster 30,000lbs limits, they get bigger and better everything.

Agreed with the chassis statement. The last Titan was the most dangerous truck to be involved in a wreck in (meaning the highest percentage of fatalities/collision).

That said, the motor impresses me, just wish it wasn't in the ugliest new truck available, in a chassis I don't trust.

If I need to tow 10,000+, you can bet I will be buying another 3/4 or 1 ton to handle the weight properly.

Exactly this. Tow ratings are based on a lot of components, including (but not limited to) frame structure, brakes, engine output, etc. Dropping an LS3 into an S10 and hoping to tow 10K pounds would be fatal.

I couldn't imagine towing 10K with a 1500, no matter what the engine setup is. I'd opt for 3/4 or 1-ton as well. They are MADE to handle that kind of weight all the time.

LOL. I bet somewhere or some member on here tows with a V8 S10.
And the front end of these trucks seem to be hate it or love it......
Speaking of frame... you would think since the truck has 555 ft lbs of torque at 1500 rpm it would have a very beefy frame.

not sure why you would revive a 2 year old thread about nissan titans with a picture of the ugliest dodge i've ever seen. but the only place i'd drive that monstrosity is into a lake so it can die.

Based on my brother in law's experience, Nissan makes some desirable products, but the quality is just absolute ****. Cheapest *** **** components go into their cars/trucks.

Case in point, he bought a 2008ish Nissan Frontier Crew Cab, V6, automatic, SE trim, 2wd, but fairly loaded out with the options. I drove that truck, man it looked great, had a decent interior, good room, good layout, great steering wheel, great driving position, great handling, very tight, tracked straight, great power from that V6(similar to the V6 in the 350Z), that sucker was pretty fast IMO. Bought it in 2013 or 2014, sold it in 2016 for a new Tacoma. Drove it from about 80k to just 100k. In that time he had the following fail on him:

1. Automatic Transmission- This was due to Nissan combining the radiator and automatic tranny cooler into one POS cheap unit. The big radiator with engine coolant and automatic transmission fluid both flowing through it would fail, thus letting coolant into the automatic transmission, leading to transmission failure.

There was a class action lawsuit against Nissan with this issue. It was over $5000 to replace the transmission and radiator at the dealer. My BIL I think got $2000 or $3000 only from this class action settlement, because his truck was over the mileage limit for free replacement. He still had to pay a grand or two to replace the transmission and radiator.

2. A/C compressor seized up around 90k miles. Didn't fix it, no A/C, $1000+ repair bill

3. Right before he traded it in, the heat went out, plugged up heater core or some such nonsense. Required removing the whole dash, once again another $1000+ repair bill

When he traded that POS in, it ran/drove great with no heat or ac, hell it drove WAY nicer than my dad's new 2016 Tacoma V6, steering was much more direct, less body roll, engine had a lot more power, transmission was programmed WAY better to keep you in the power band(hate the auto trans in the new Tacoma, it constantly upshifts and keeps you out of the powerband, its like the guys programming the transmission didn't talk to the engine guys, that V6 has to rev to make power)

Found this online for 8200 dollars. Wish it was close i would be all over it. Its a 2003 model 2wd automatic tranmission cloth seat truck. Truck has 175k on it. I know people dont like 2wd diesels but this would be a perfect tow rig to tow a f body anywhere you desire. I can only imagine what itll do with the big 3... programmer, intake and exhaust.
