I'm hooked! I just participated in my first Autocross event and it was a blast! Not too many people showed, so we got to make about 10 runs each. Now if I can just get some tires, I'll be in a good shape. Lots of fun! Tommy :) |
Yeah I'm going to AutoX for my first time in two weeks. I went last weekend, but got there too late to register, so I just rode with a lot of different people while they raced. It was pretty fun and I got a good taste of what it's like. I can't wait to see how my car does with it's current mods. Only problem is I'll probably be pushed into one of the higher classes. I have an extra set of wheels, so I'll probably get a set of race tires put on them. The Kumho's are supposed to be good and the price is right. |
Yeah, I was pushed into Class C Prepared (thanks to my cam, etc...) I really need good tires to even begin to be competitive (plus I have to learn how to autocross!) I am taking Evolution's Phase I AutoX school in two weeks. I can't wait! Tommy :) |

you fit into Street Mod, CP is for gutted out cars on slicks. It is nice to beat up on the little cars when the course allows. In CP the largest rim allowed is a 16 in. In Sm I run 17x11 on a 4 wheels and 315 tires |

You belong in SM They say they follow the SCCA classing so SM is avail, they might not know the rules. Cams are fine and all gears, you must be under 6.0l for SM over 6.0 is in SM2 |
I don't know where they came up with CP. Sm if you have and internaly modified motor or subframe connectors, ESP for suspension, no internal engine mods or subframes, and duh, f-stock for pretty much stock cars (catbacks are allowed, replaced air filter, not lids unfortunately) . |
I agree, this whole classification thing is confusing as hell. I thought I would be in SM until I read in the rules you can't change the final drive ratio, axles or bearings; and if your car came with an airbag steering wheel, you can't replace it with a non-airbag wheel. |
Assuming I'm stuck in CP, does anyone have any recommendations on a wheels/tire combo that would be competitive. Someone at my first AutoX event suggested simple steel rims, with slicks, but I have NO idea what size, offset, type of tire, etc, to go with. Any advice would be great. Tommy :) |
where are you reading that, Gears were allways free in SM, ESP limits gears but not SM |

How do I find out when an event is going to be in my area? I would like to give it a shot at least once. |
All I did was do a web search on my state and AutoX, or SCCA. It came up with a web site for the Utah SCCA. They had a link to a calendar for the whole year's events in my area. Before that I didn't even know anybody from around here that AuotX's. I was surprise to see about 60 cars there! If NC is like Utah, they have an event about every two weeks, but at various sites. |

Just look out for the older BMW M3's as they are the cars to have in SM. None im my area though! The Fbody holds it's own though, I came in second place last autocross I went to in SM. Best bang for the buck compitition and everyone there is usually really cool. It is a nice change over from being caught in traffic (staging lanes) at the dragway!
