Default LS1 or LH6 track motor

Hey all,
I'm a few months away from beginning the motor build for my truck ('94 S-10 pickup) and before I buy anything I want to get some feedback from the experts. The truck will weigh approx 2,400LB's once completed and need to sustain some high-rpm driving for consecutive 30-minute sessions.

I currently have an LS1 from a '97 'Vette which I purchased primarily for the accessory drive, intake, and heads (don't remember casting# ATM). I also got a set of head and bolts, main, rod, and cam bearings, and rings when I got the motor.

Regardless of which motor I choose, I plan on buying a cam, lifters, springs, and possibly valves. I'd also like to have the capability to reliably shift around the 6,800-7,000 RPM mark (a lofty goal, agreed).

My primary question is this; does it even make sense to rebuild the LS1 to accomplish the task? Or would it make more sense to go with a GEN IV LH6 (I'm okay with the decrease in displacement) and leave the bottom-end in place?
