I mentioned that when the Event 1st started it was in Honor of Dan Wheldon. That stopped as there was another Karting event in Indianapolis also in honor of him and to raise money for his kids. Now we raise money for St John Hopkins Kids. This year we raised $160,000.
BTW, Suzie Wheldon still lives in St Pete. She and the boys came out to the event. Sebastian is very good!

Funny story about one of those, so we used to race karts on dirt oval - anyway, someone brought out a liquid rocket powered kart as an exhibition thing. At any rate, it was the shakedown and the poor fella made two fatal errors. 1: The rocket nozzle angle was pointed ever so slightly down, which pretty much negated 100% of the kart's front brake, and 2: the throttle wasnt tested properly, and on the first shakedown go, it got pinned to the floor.
At any rate, they didn't find whole pieces of the fellow, so that's gonna be a big fat NO from me.

we have a Pro-Am Charity Karting event in the Tampa area that was started to honor Dan Wheldon. It is year 7 and now benefits St John Hopkins Children's Hospital and organized by Sebastian Bourdais & Patrick Long. I've run all 7 Years, this year we ran on the St Pete GP circuit under the lights, my Pro was Patrick Long, we finished 5th out of 22 Teams.

Well this event is coming back around next week and for the 1st time in it's existence, I'm not taking part! I know that the objective is to give to Charity, but there are a few people that are on the Organizing Committee that apparently think that money grows on Trees - They doubled the Entry Fees! It was expensive before, especially considering the small amount of Track Time and I don't need to pay to hang out with Racers!
