Chris,
Race rubber is just that - racing rubber! They have to get pretty heated up to work the way they are designed to work. I hear what you're saying about your driving style, but these tires are designed for optimal performance on the road course, where they are constantly being subjected to high speed/high stress. I can't see them getting hot enough on the street to work properly. Just my $0.02.

Re: Road race tires on the street?
I drove around on Kumho Victoracer V700s for about 3 months. I LOVED them on the street. They hooked like nittos from a stop and allowed the car to pull tremendous g's in the twisties. However, I will never buy roadracing tires for my daily driver again because they lasted about 4k miles. If you only drive the car a few times a week and you have the bank to get new tires every 4k-5k miles then I would definitely go for it. lol

Road race tires on the street?
I would like to buy wheels for my Corvette in the spring. I plan to do 18's all around, probably 9.5 or 10 in front, and 11's in the rear. I don't think I want to mini-tub the car to make a 12" with 335 fit.
The problem then is tires. No one seems to make a ~26" tall, 315 wide tire. So I found these Hoosier radial DOT road race tires, R3S03 in 275/35/18 and 305/30/18. At 25.3" and 25.6" OD, they are a bit shorter than stock though.

They also have radial wet tires in the same sizes that presumably have more tread. Both look pretty cool. I wonder how they'd be on the street? I mean, we don't bat an eye at driving around on ET Streets. Seems like these could be the ultimate for the way I drive my car (lots of hard cornering and no rain).

Re: Road race tires on the street?
I'm driving on Yoko A032s right know, heard they lasted a little longer than some of the other race DOTs while not sticking as good. Actually I like them except for the noise. They are loud, I'm used to it, 4x4s all my life. BTW, they are not all that bad in the rain either. Don't get me wrong, they ain't aqua-treads, but they are better than BFG Drag radials or R1s. Remember though, very loud!

Chris,
There is not another tire size from that jump- 295-335. Michelin Discontinued the 325s about a year ago. we run KDs- 265/295 on both the Vette and the camaro. Probably the best "stree" tire out there for those of us Corner Carvers. The Hoosiers will be fine on the street, but likewise, they do not have "optimal" adhesion at regular daily driving temps.

Re: Road race tires on the street?
Thanks everybody! I guess I will have to stick with the 295's for now. I had a set of KD's on my Camaro, and loved them. It's tough to compare those on an F-body to the Supercar tires on the Y-body.
Sure would be nice if someone would step up with a rear tire for these cars. Hello? Tire manufacturers, are you listening?

Re: Road race tires on the street?
Sorry on the late info, Nitto has a new DOT tire out. It's in a write up in the new GM High tech. It's only available in 275/40/17 now, with more choices to come. Also, Kummo has a new Estra DOT tire coming out.
