Meth Injection
Hey guys need some help. I'm heading for a dyno tune next week and plan to add meth before. I ordered a sno-performance stage 2 progressive kit today. I plan on running 10-12#'s of boost on my Forged pistons and rods in a 2001 ls1, 70mm turbo and a speed inc Tu1 cam. I planned on running a 50/50 mix like boost juice. After talking to my tuner he said he wouldn't gain much more power vs 91 pump gas with a 50/50 mix. He mentioned not using it and sticking with reg pump gas. What are your thoughts on this? He said he only uses 100% meth and Alky control or nothing at all. Part of the reason for running the 50/50 was to keep the fire hazard low. Something about pure meth in a hot turbo engine bay makes me nervous.

In the end run what u want and what your comfortable with. My tuner originally said they only tune 50/50 and I told them I only want to run 100% methanol with my progressive alky control kit and eventually they agreed to do it and I'm happy with it but I knew if i did what they wanted I would just find another tuner so I say do what u think is best for your investment.

Straight meth is the only way to go if you want to ring it out to its maximum potential. Otherwise E85 would be my choice. Meth inj as a dual fuel is best done with a second set of injectors. It can be done on the stock ECU but at this level Holley is your friend unless you are a true master tuner, Holley is money in the bank here

Well I decided to purchase an Alky control kit. It will be here Saturday. I'll return the SNO kit later on. Talking to Julio he said to just tap into my 2 bar map sensor signal wire that I have for the control box. Will this be Ok?

Methanol has way lower specific gravity than gas. You need to pump a bucket load to run straight meth. LOADS of injector, usually two per cyl. A pair of 220's is not uncommon so not likely anyone successfully running an injection kit as a main meth system and making any real power.
Some guys do run their own second meth fogger system though. I saw a GN who had at least two injectors plumbed into the intake and a second fuel system for them that powered on with a boost referenced switch. Switched on at 4psi or something like that iirc

Another vote for 100% meth here.
My S480 combo @ 23 psi will take 16 degrees of timing before no gains in power are shown this is with 93 octane pump gas, motor is a 9:1 6.0 no KR. I run it @ 14 degrees on the street to have some margin. Progressive controller with a single 14 gph nozzle also knocks IATs down about 30 degrees. My IAT'S were 115F at the end of the 1/4 mile pass @ 23 psig and the air temp that day was 96F this was @ SCT Charlotte, NC back in august.

Just be careful who you tell you are on meth. I had my mom overhear me one day on the phone because I was using a meth kit on my SRT4 (650+fwhp on a 4 banger pretty fun) anyways next thing I know I'm getting grilled and taking a **** test even though I don't live with her because she was concerned. The pail of meth I brought over later labeled methanol didn't clear it up at all. Lol just a fun little story for you guys. I mixed my set up 70/30 using pure methanol and distilled water from Walmart. Much cheaper than buying boost juice online. I'm also in a state where E85 isn't very available in my area and the best out of a pump was 91. It was worth some serious power. On a daily driver it's kind of annoying depending how much you spray. Carrying extra in a container in the trunk sucks and running out and having to drive calmly home sucks. However my SRT was a toy and in that situation it was a blast and a great investment.

It seems if you generate a lot of heat, i.e. Turbo, centrifugal super charger. Etc, pure meth is the way to go. My set up, 6.0 whipple 2.9, I'm running 19* @ 13lbs boost. On a SBE gen 4 6.0
With 93 and 50/50 meth ,water. My AIT were 25-30* ambient before the meth . Now during a 1/4 mile run, they drop significantly.

I need some help with the nozzle placement. I don't have much room on the charge pipe. I have a couple options on where I can put the nozzle. Opt 1 will put the nozzle roughly 9" away from the BOV and roughly 4" from the IAT sensor. Opt 2 is 5" away from the BOV and 5" away from the IAT sensor. Does it matter on the orientation of the Nozzle, side, top or bottom of the charge pipe. Going to finish up the install today. Not sure what I should be worried about more, the blow off valve blowing extra meth in the engine bay possibly or being to close to the IAT sensor. Thanks in advance for everyone's help. Sorry about the crappy drawing, hard to draw on a phone. I swear the commercials make it look easy lol.

if it were me I'd just put it after the BOV in the pipe. i've been told you want a good amount of distance between the meth and the throttle body so the meth is fully atomized when it gets to intake manifold or that's what julio at alky control told me

1. The "blow off" (bypass) valve should be as close to the compressor as possible. Some compressors come with them integrated now in fact.
Methanol is easier to control, it shows up on the wideband, and is actual fuel to burn with octane rating. It definitely does a great job by itself.
Just keep in mind that water, even 100% distilled water, can reduce combustion temperatures dramatically making the engine safer, even if it doesn't show up in the IAT much.
