Default Transmission Recommendation Needed

Hi there,

I have a 1957 chevy belair convertible, doing a full customization to the car. I'm putting the corvette LS7 engine in it just don't know what transmission will go with it. also, as far as smooth shifting and smooth riding. Is it the 4L60E, 4L65E or maybe other recommendation. The Transmission that i'm looking for is an Automatic transmission that will handle good with the LS7 with a smooth shifting and wouldn't broke down on me.

Please advise.

Thank you

4L60E or 65E.

We have a customer who owns a '57 Bel Air. get this, he is 68 years old and is the second owner of the car. He has owned it since it was 8 months old!

He had the conversion done locally sometime ago, had a Lingenfelter LS2 installed with a 4l60E. He had our neighbors Xtreme H/P do a Heads / Cam swap last summer and during the dyno pulls it broke the custom tailhousing. We built it to our Stage 2 specs for him, ordered a new tailhousing and since then he has been very happy.

He took it to the local track one night and put 14 laps on it!! He was hot lapping the crap out of it that night! Since then he has upped the cubes, put a Fast 90/90 setup on it and loves it!

I love those old school conversions! Let me know if I can help at all!

Thank you Gilbert for responding to my post. so 4L60E will work fine with an LS7 engine 505 HP.

Yep I believe a 4L60E would not be any problem at all. I have a vendor who produces tailhousings for retro applications, for those guys who want to keep a mechanical speedometer but who also need a digital speed sensor signal. Give me a call if you would like to explore that option.
