Default Tool Box help...

I am in the process of redoing my garage and am looking for a tool box. I dont want to spend a ton of money. I want a roller about 48" wide with a top box. What do you guys recommend? I have been looking into International and Craftsman. I want something nice and definitely ball bearing. But I need some direction on what brands to consider as well as some links to sites that sell the boxes!

I appreciate any help!!!

We had this a few times already. The Sam's club box is awesome for the price. I have 2 & love them.
Several of my buddies have bought them after seeing & using mine. You will get several opinions.
Good luck, I vote Sam's club.

My dad got a brushed aluminum top and bottom box for around $700 at one of those Sam's club type places (either Costco or BJ's Wholesale...not sure). It looks like a pretty decent box, especially for the price. Something similar from SnapOn would be about 7 grand probably (better quality but it's still tough to justify that price).

the costco ones are pretty good, I also like the Kobalt ones at Lowes. The HF units really aren't that bad, they just don't look as nice. If you are trying to keep cost down check craigslist, you can get pretty good deals. I ended up getting a pretty big box (48" waterloo) for $200

If it's ~$500-550 for both pieces, that's the model that replaced mine. They had 2 models when I got mine.
1 model has all drawers full width, 1 had some divided in 3. I bought one of each. I love them & as said, several,
like 6+ friends went and bought 1-2 after seeing mine. I'm not a stockholder, just really like what I got for the price.
Good luck.

I'd check Craigsist for a reasonably price Snap on Mac or Matco. That being said, Proto makes a nice box too.

I checked... people are asking 2500+ in my area for boxes that are 8-10 years old!

People are nuts!! No frigging way. I have a lot of nice stuff & top of the line name brand things.
There is no way I'm paying that for a box with drawers. I can't even imagine what a 82"W X 60"H
would cost from one of the name guys???

my wife got me one of the sams ones for christmas. It is def a nice box and will do everything I would want it to do, which is pretty much hold tools and look cool. It has the ball bearing drawers, flip up top with shocks, stainless finish. I think they are about $700 bucks. That one in the link may be the same one, mine seems taller though.

I bought the cart/toolbox from Sam's to roll out to the driveway to work on stuff (my garage is small) and it is very nice for the price. I think it was $130 and it "feels" alot more solid & smooth than the $200 ones from Craftsman. The 41" chest is nice, I don't have room for it though. The only thing that sucks with the cart is you have to assemble it and peel off a bunch of tape that protects the finish.

Just measured mine. I have 2 of the older style. Both are 41" X 18", just a different lay out.

I have heard that Harbor Freight tool boxes are actually really good. No joke, check them out and see what you think.

This link is comparable to the Sams one (12 drawer, 41", bottom unit)
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=91469

I have seen the Sams in person and they look very good.

Another HF one. They do sell all pieces.

I will probably get screamed at for this, but in my opinion there is no comparison in quality from any of these companies to the big names. I know they are expensive, but they will hold many more tools in the same width box. My snap-on box is 54" wide but unlike like 18" deep you get with the cheap brands it is over 30" deep. The wheels and rollers for the drawers are much nicer. I can pull my top drawer out to full extention and sit on it. It is full of sockets and wrenches and will still hold up me at 200 lbs. You can buy whatever you want, but in my opinion, I like to pay for quality when it comes to tools and equipment.

I bought the biggest combination box Lowes had and with a 20% off coupon it was only 750.00. I love it.
