I finished this build last summer and I didn't do a build thread unfortunately, so here is a run down of what I did. I bought a 30k mile stock 6 speed 2001 Trans am 2 years ago to leave stock and enjoy with the family. I added ccw sp500s and Strano lowering springs.






Well I quickly realized how boring a 300 whp car is after owned a turbo Camaro SS and a nitrous 408 Camaro z28.

I first thought about just doing a cam and headers, but I knew I would want more after a week of those mods, so I figured I would "save" some money and go straight to forced induction. After the nightmare I had building my turbo Camaro I wanted to give procharger a try.

I pieced together my own d1sc kit. I found a 1000 mile d1sc for 1800 dollars on Facebook, found a deal on a aster bracket, used a treadstone intercooler, ati balancer, tial 50mm bov and had my friend tig up an aluminum cold side. I pieced it all together for around 4000 dollars.

I was first going to just throw boost at the stock ls1 but I decided to pull it out to get built. After I pulled the motor I found a deal on a 20k mile LS3 with a boost cam, ls9 gaskets and arp head studs for 2800 dollars. I bought that and sold my stock ls1 for 2200 dollars.

I decided to reuse the stock t56 until it went out. Which it did, but I'll get into that later. I'm using a rxt clutch with a tick master cylinder. I love this clutch, drives like stock and holds the power.

For a rear end im using a strange S60 with a S trac and 3.73 gears. It is also set up for 4 channel. Everything works like it did from the factory. I'm also using a 3.5" pst aluminum driveshaft.

I built my own return system Fuel system. I cut up the stock bucket and added two 255 walbro pumps. One is boost activated at 4 psi. I'm using a -8 feed and -6 return. I'm using brfpr from fuel lab and Holley rails. I have around 1000 dollars in the whole set up. Id1000 injectors. I'm using a alky control meth kit also.

Im using a stock radiator, a mightymouse fan shroud and a 16" and 9" spal fans. The car has never got over 200 degrees on 100 degree days.

I'm using kooks 1 7/8 headers with their 3" true duals.

The car is a blast to drive, cruises around town with no cam surge. It will cruise at 25 in forth gear just fine. The ac blows Ice cold on the hottest St. Louis days. It made 700 whp and 625 wtq on 12 psi at 6800 Rpms. There is around 14 degrees of timing in it with a 11-11.5 afr. I was using a 7.65 crank pulley and a 4" blower pulley.

I went to the track with it on 17" wagon wheels with 26" et streets and gto front spares. I have never ran a stock car at the track and I need more seat time. My first pass was a 13.6 at 120 with a 2.6 60ft and I ended up going 11.2 at 129.4 with a 1.89 60ft. The da was around 1000 ft. The car has no weight reduction at all. I'm guessing it's around 3800 without me in it. And I'm 240.

I just swapped to a 3.7 blower pulley while the car is down getting a t56 magnum. I also picked up a set of weld s76 wheels for the track.

 

Simple and solid, I like it. Work on getting that 60' down.

 

Nice build... Procharged 6sp cars are very fun. Especially on the street. You'll have some fun with it this summer. Keep us updated on kills.

 

I am getting 28x10.5 et drag s and a 2 step. That should get the job done hopefully. With the extra power and a 1.6 60ft, it has 10.40s to 10.50s in it I think.

This is inspiration for when I do my Procharged build. I didn't realize you were in St. Louis. We need to meet up sometime. I'm in Jefferson City, but come to St. Louis quite a bit.

That bracket holding the intercooler is awesome. That custom or you buy it somewhere?

 

It's from burkhart chassis. My friend welded the cross bar and drop downs for the intercooler and then I got it powdercoated. I've had two of these bumper supports from burkhart chassis and I've been very happy with them.

 

Nice. May need to look at that. If I did that, I'd probably do the single intercooler vs twins on the procharger. It looks like it clears everything well.

 

It does, I just needed to trim the fog lamp and license plate areas up for the intercooler.

 

Was it difficult trimming the front bumper? I plan to add a procharger to my car in the near future. Beautiful build by the way

I wouldn't waste your time with the twin intercoolers.

 

beautiful ride...maybe when i get back from deployment next year i will also have a white procharged f-body well anyway are the twin intercoolers really that much of a pain? I hear multiple people say to skip running them, i was just gonna possibly run them so i wouldn't have to cut up my bumper or anything plus i like that they are somewhat stealthy.
