Post update! Almost two years ago I finally got my hands on a QuickJack BL-5000 car lift...

hey y2k, nice garage. Im debating if I should bother with a quick jack or just wait until I could get a space with higher ceilings. Any reason you went with the qj over a maxjack or a low ceiling lift? Looks like you have the space if you got one of those front garage door openers to get rid of the track above. How is the qj? Think its worth the money? Thanks.

Thanks! As you can imagine, I spent a large amount of time deciding on a lift solution that fit my needs. While the garage is a decent size, I do keep three cars in it. I considered...

1) A four-post that would enable additional floor space and storing the car off the floor but then I would need to juggle cars around for maintenance jobs throughout the year. Many of those jobs also lead to taking the wheels off and they weren't great for that purpose.

2) I ruled out the MaxJax lift (and other two-post lifts) primarily on the work required to thicken the concrete support. As-is, the concrete is not thick enough. I did however like the system as it was able to be put out of the way when not in use.

3) I considered a recessed mid-rise scissor, but again, was turned off by the concrete work I would have wanted to do.

Ultimately what led me to the QuickJack was the portability and versatility. I could lift and work on any of the cars in their respective parking spots. It also didn't require concrete modifications. As an added bonus, I can also take it to other locations (friends and family) to use when needed.

There is not finished space above my garage and would certainly love to raise the ceiling, redo the floor and a purpose built two-post space, but at that point I would just consider building an additional attached garage

Hope this helps!

So far it has been fine. I may spray some insulation later should we get some AC.

I'd love to have a little woodstove in my building with the natural gas heater, but don't want to give up the space they require.

My garage already made an appearance in this thread awhile back. But I just finished a video about the place, and figured someone here might enjoy it.
