Could this affect the rear main bearing bore?

Default Could this affect the rear main bearing bore?

I’m beginning to feel like this LS2 of mine is bad luck! I was looking at the back of my block today, and noticed this nice, little indentation at the very rear just above the rear main bearing saddle.



Looks like someone at some time tried to install an overly long screw to bolt down the flywheel. This is odd, given the indentation pattern (a ring with an untouched middle) and since the necessary M11x1.5 bolt isn’t exactly a common size that can be picked up at the local Home Depot. My concern is that it could affect the roundess of the rearmost main bearing saddle. Any thoughts on this?

It probably could, it would be worth checking IMO.

Default Dial Bore Gauge Measurement

Hi Matt, I see you assemble engines ?
I would measure the housing bore with a Dial Bore Gauge, finding it round = OK.

You would do the same thing with my Forged Rods, the ones manufactured in China, the same factory a Callis, Scat, etc.

I SHOULD ADD, measure #4 main housing bore OR all others as they too should be =.

I doubt it hurt it, but, CHECK ALWAYS, using the method and eqpt Lance mentioned. Never hurts to check and measure stuff, as long as you get past paralysis by analysis and posting on teh Interwebz and actually MAKE A DECISION and then DO STUFF.

Lots of bolts, esp ones with "rolled" as opposed to "cut" threads (i.e. most of them in a stock situation), will have a "ring" around their end like that. It's actually a better way to mass-produce bolts although maybe not as good for one-off kind of stuff.
