Default MTI 422ci with "X1" (230/227) cam - Dyno Results

MTI just installed the X1 reverse-split camshaft into the shop corvette (yellow coupe featured in GMHTP).

The small 230/227 cam inside the 422ci idles like stock! You can even drive it in 5th gear on the freeway at 850 rpm with no lugging/bucking. Its one hell of a sleeper for sure!

481 rwhp, 509 ft-lbs SAE corrected! The torque is HUGE all the way across.

Dyno runs pulled through complete exhaust, including Corsa catback. Stage 3 LS6 heads are on the motor, stock LS6 intake.

509 ft-lbs torque with a stock idle is insane <img border="0" alt="[devil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" />

Is that thru an auto or 6 speed?

Do you think that "small" cam helped with the bottom end and midrange torque? 509 ft-lbs is pretty awesome. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

BTW, what's the lift and LSA on that cam? **edit** Nevermind, I found it. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Thanks

John

What would that engine cost shipped as a long block?

Interesting results. Can you post a dyno comparison of this cam versus the previous cam in the shop car's 422?

XLR8NSS, the Vette is a 6-speed. The "small" cam did increase the low/mid torque output. Most of the larger (R1, 232/237) cammed 422ci setups make around 500 rwhp, but torque numbers in the 48X range. The S1 (244/244) cammed ones make over 500/500 but idle pretty rough for most Vette owners. The cool thing about this little cam is that the car sounds/drives like stock.

bparker, tuning would be highly recommended. The last Stage 2 LS6 heads/cam with this X1 pulled 440 rwhp and over 400 ft-lbs.

Mello, you can get a pricing quote at Sales@MotorsportTech.com and it will vary depending on exactly what you want.

Nick, I'll see what I can do as far as comparison dynos. The Vette was returned to stock earlier this year, and the previous 422ci was sold, so this is a different motor. Might not be the best comparsion. Jayson drives the Vette daily, and wanted a fast car with no drivability compromises.

That is sweet Tony. I'd love to see the graph of the torque curve of that monster...

Very, very interesting. If I weren't doing the tranny conversion, I would be interested in that serious low-end grunt on that reverse patterned cam.

Still thinking about changing cams - maybe to something a little less tame than the R1. I wonder what a larger reversed pattern cam would do, say a 235/232 or something along those lines.

BTW - my R1 numbers are pretty much what Tony posted they should be.
