Default custom grind cam specs

buddy of mine is looking into buying a cam and he was going to go custom grind.
he e-mailed me these as what he limited his choices to:

#1-(high)
243/248 .653/.615 110 lsa

#2 (mid)
242/244 .621/.612 111 lsa

#3 (low)
238/246 .585/.614 112 lsa

he said that he went along the lines of the trex, ms4, and the vidicator for a base line and he likes the idea of #1 "cuz its so damn big, dude". i told him #3 cuz the other 2 seem huge for a DD.

pick which one youd go with (i think all he has is bolt-ons & full exhaust)

Hard to say without knowing more details. Does he want to go all out & isn't worried too much about idle characteristics?

Why as the duration goes down on the cam choices does the lobe separation go up? Like you have to had a wider lsa on a smaller cam or something?

He needs a really good tune, steep gears & a pretty big stall with all of them but I'd stick with a 110 or 111 lsa on any of the 3.

I guess I'd lean towards #2 but on a 110 lsa.

the second one is on XFI lobes, so it is fairly radical... #3 if I had to pick between those, but he seems to not know what he really needs. All of those are huge for just a bolt on car if you ask me, especially for a DD.

i dont know a whole lot about his car, as he lives 100 miles away. he didnt tell me if he did any research or not. im pretty sure he just went to a website and picked out some pretty numbers. i told him to call a place like TSP and theyll hook em up or just get a vindicator, cuz i heard those are good for DD.

BTW, im sending him the link to this thread once it gets full of info, so please just write as much as you can. ill try to get more info about his car and his goals when he e-mails me back.

Whats the goals? Whats it gunna be used for? How high can he turn the motor? Is the bottom end going to be built?

#1 He will have to flycut the pistons
#2 Will be close on PTV
#3 Would be good for a high revving 346

Sounds like to me, he just wants a big *** cam so it will sound nasty, but only put down 365rwhp bc he cant spin it high enough to where it starts actually making power.

The cam he would need would be something like a 230/230 .60X/.59X on a 112 lsa. Something along that range, if thats all he is going to have is bolt ons and exhaust. It sounds like this guy needs to do alot of research before he orders one of these cams. Also he needs to figure out his goals and actually what he's going to do with the car.

If he does want a big *** cam that will work with stock heads I would sale him my MS4 with low miles on it for $320. Any cam that is over a .600 lift I would have say you need to go with some PRC dual springs and the other goodies to go along with it.
