Default Quieting down true duals

Well since I can't find my thread I started ~ 10 days ago, I need to start another one to pick up where the old one left off.

I have 3" true duals (H pipe) out the back and am using Spiral Flow mufflers mounted behind the bumper. I'm wanting to clean up the sound as the car gets pretty raspy at higher rpms, basically like the old farm truck sound. How do these Magnaflows compare to Spiral Flows?

Oh those will be MUCH worse..haha

If you have room, add some high flow catalytic convertors...

Or look into the Sweet Thunder mufflers...a friend of mine had one and it has a real deep tone to it...not raspy like my Dynomax.

That doesn't look any different than the dynomax bullets, which meand it will be louder than you have. Do you have TD over the axle?

Might want to consider a stock type setup, with a electronic cutout, or something with a 6" case, that will quiet it down quite a bit.

+1 on that.. I just put Sweet thunders on a home spun 2.5" H pipe. sounds wicked! Loud but not super resonating nasty inside the car and no high pitched raspy sound at all. If not high flow cats will also calm the exhaust down a bit as well.

Yes, just like this except I don't have cats and the only mufflers I have are the Spiral Flows behind the bumper.

I don't want to put cats on there as space is tight, and my headers don't have EGR or AIR hookups. Also, I'm not sure about Sweet Thunders as I can't put anything longer than 18" in place of the Spiral Flows, and there's not enough room along the driveshaft tunnel to fit them.

What about these cone inserts that go into the header collector? Has anyone tried these?

What about the Borla XR1s? they are a little bit more expensive, but sound good also.

I'm looking at something different to quiet down my car, which I'm sure is much louder than yours. Bullets dumped at the axle.

I'm thinking of something like Y to 4" cutout, then over the axle & split to each side with a round muffler of some sort there.

I see the DynoMax ultra flow 6" round might be an option, if it would tuck up in there. It's 16" long.

More options if you went with a 2.5".

Magnaflow has a round one 6X14 3" that should work.

6" round muffler is big. If you did some cutting and welding they would fit but 6" is really a gigantic muffler to fit anywhere on an f-body. Sweet thunder mufflers or Classic chambered Powersticks are 16" long overall and 3.5" Case diameter. those should be able to fit in the DS tunnel but it will depend on how close the pipes are in there now. As far as the Dynatech cones you can try them although imo they are way overpriced for nothing but a small piece of perforated stainless steel in a cone shape.

$800 Performance Xhaust here in Evansville did it. Do a search on Google, and you'll find the website. Dave is a super nice guy & and he really knows what he's doing. Ground clearance is the same as if I had a 3" Y pipe. He keeps mandrel bent tubing in stock too.

Call Mike @ Sweet Thunder...ask if he can get one made for you that is shorter...hell, it's just pipe, if they can cut it to 18" they should be able to cut it to 12".

18 inches is one of the standard lengths for the sweet thunders. I have mine in the driveshaft tunnel and they fit perfectly.

My setup is 3", not 2.5" like yours. I don't think I have enough space to keep the pipes tucked up high where they're at.

This is on a friends TA, the tips are Magnaflow resonators and the mufflers are 6" body Magnaflow bullets. So quiet you can hear the tires and turbos all the way down a 9 sec. 1/4 mile. I've also built one like it with borla XR1's and SLP centermount tips on another friends Camaro but don't have pics, sounds like a vette.

And this one is with borla XR1's, quiet on either side of the car with almost no interior resonance.

I had tons of noise and resonance with a 4 inch mufflex exhaust and magnaflow muffler paired with a Kooks ory. I installed a car chemistry insert inside the pipe. It was easy, and quieted the resonance and rasp significantly. You could use 2 of these inserts in your dual 3 inch tubing and see how you like it. They are a little expensive, but less than a good muffler, and no installation cost! Good luck.

Are those mufflers part of their "Race Series" line?

Not sure my friend got everything, but like I said if you heard it idle by you would never guess it was a 9 sec. TT402.

i think those are the magnaflows my buddy just put on his TA, sounds really good with his cam but it's not as loud as it was with just high-flow cats on his TD's lol i personally think those dual mufflers after the axle are straight ricer . . . just my opinion
