Haha....yeah, I do remember that incident! But I thought it was the radiator cap that I noticed, that it had red/orange lettering instead of the stock white letters. This stood out to me because a local friend bought a brand new Express cargo van in 2002 that came stock with that same red letter cap. I still had my red '00 Trans Am at the time and thought the cap would look good on it but I never got around to buying one....when I saw it on yours it reminded me of this. Or at least I think that was your car.

The tires don't look very new. Is that the 21K mile car or the 4K miles one? The wear across the rear tires looks uneven. They look like 20-25K mile tires.

The Eagle F1's sitting down in my basement came off with 16K miles....and look far better. In those photos....on the inner most tread block you can make out the circumferential sipes....you can't see them on the outer most tread blocks. They are quite clear and deep on both sides of my old tires. Those outer sipes go down about to about 3/32 or 4/32nds of tread depth best I can measure. Maybe my original tires had more meat left than I thought? I measure approx 1/4" (8/32) in the main grooves. Using coins to measure depth, I came up with 40% tread left.

A 20% premium for a very nice example is quite common.
I checked the spread sheet commonly posted on this site. And the WS6 numbers are lower in both 2001/2002. If verts, firehawks, Z28's and base firebirds are tossed in, the numbers might look a bit different. But with 1085 Z28 2002 coupes in SOM, that really waters down the overall Chevy product. SOM Trans Am coupes are not that easy to run across....just slightly more made than WS6 coupes.

SOM's

2001 WS6 coupe M6/A4 187/130
2002 WS6 coupe M6/A4 221/161

699 total

2001 SS coupe M6/A4 234/170
2002 SS coupe M6/A4 263/383

1050 total....essentially 50% more of them.

https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-...searchRadius=0

Autotrader shows 8 total SOM cars. 6 Camaro's and 2 Pontiacs. Of those 6 Camaro's - 2 SS's and 4 Z28's. About the break down you'd expect. The 2 Pontiacs were Firebirds...no WS6's this time.

There are two SOM TA's that are close to me but I am a camaro guy. I really want to look at this car because I am ready to move on. I appreciate you guys. Just have to sell the 69 first.

Those numbers vary so much from these. The numbers you posted seem to be quite a bit lower than quite a few sites/numbers I have seen.

That's true...now that I see the disclaimer at the top of the 2002 Firebird pages. And those differences in the 2002 Firebirds (7360 vehicles) and Camaro's (1 vehicle) are noted in the link I posted. And those unreported Firebirds on the numbers I posted could increase those SOM WS6 ratios by another approx 30-40%. That still probably isn't enough to overtake the Camaro SS SOM production....But they are close to dead even for the SS....much closer than I thought. Thanks for bringing that to my attention.

The Camaro numbers are supposedly in agreement (ie 1 car difference between the 2 data bases).

The numbers you posted is the first time I've seen the 02 SOM WS6 #'s be lower than the SS's. Personally I have seen more SOM WS6's online and in person than the SS's. I have only seen 1 other SOM SS in person other than mine.

Either way, I'll get ahold of a nice 2002 SOM WS6 someday! Hopefully before someone buys my SS. Only way wife would agree to let me keep it is if i found a SOM WS6 for her to drive with me to car shows.

I see that you have found the ad for the '02 Z28 A4 in SOM that's posted in the classifieds. This is one of the cars I was referring to when I mentioned earlier that the SOM premium will only go "so far". This particular car is overpriced by about 30-35%, or about ~$4-4.5K, and SOM just isn't going to bring that kind of markup on a Z28, especially with the less desirable auto trans (which is something that's only desirable to myself and maybe 10 other enthusiasts....LOL.) It's a nice car and would be a fun toy for someone, but factor in the various modifications (and the partial return to stock), the history of racing and the cosmetic changes and you pretty much negate any top tier collector status even at such low miles as that one. The current ad has been up for 4 months during peak hobby-car sales season, and it was listed at least once previously by the same owner; it's going to be quite a chore to move that car at its current price.

I will post an update to this thread. Here is a car I am going to look at in two days. I am leaving tomorrow night actually and going to drive to NY. Any experts in here see anything that sticks out that I have missed. The car doesnt have and decals on the doors. No RPO codes, nothing. Thanks again.

Well the ad says "sold" so you must have bought it. No door decals for RPO's and SLP? That's a potential problem....at least for a collectible quality car. Driver's door should have 3 decals which includes RPO codes. Passenger door gets an SLP content sticker. Not sure if you get one if there's no additional SLP options beyond their std package.

I did purchase the car. There are RPO codes on the door just none on the passenger door. This car is mint.

The car does look very nice. I wouldn't call it "mint", because I think that term is vastly overused and misunderstood, but it's certainly a very nice car. Some things I see at first glance:

- Very minor wear on the drivers seat (nothing out of the ordinary for the mileage)
- Some scratches on the T-top stowage area
- Engine bay needs some minor detailing and a new radiator cap, plus what appears to be some minor corrosion of several bolt heads along the upper core support/frame area (the engine bay would look great with these areas addressed)
- Some fading of the Bowtie on the wheel center cap (very common issue on these)
- Undercarriage is not detailed, but this isn't really an issue unless competitive showing is planned

This car will need a new roof at some point as well, but that's an unfortunate fact for all of the '99+ cars.

Looks like a good buy and a fair asking price to start. With so many overpriced examples floating around lately, I think you made the right decision waiting for this one. Congrats on the new car!

Hey Sorry to not update. I sold the 69 and man did I take a loss on that car. I haven't been able to do any detailing on the car. I have to replace the rear pinion seal and I am going to detail the rear end while I am at it. There are three bubbles on the sail panel. I am currently trying to find in a scrap yard and take it off but where I am at currently there isnt a single v6 camaro within 50 miles of me.
