What Rear end does the GTO come with?
Is it stronger then an Fbody rear end? Im thinking i may want to buy one of these next year. The car is really growing on me. Saw a purple one today here in Biloxi Mississippi. Very refined. I think im getting older and this seems to fit the bill.

Diff & prop shafts are the same across the Holden range.
In the 'performance' models (Commodore SS Utility, Sedan, Wagon, SV8, Monaro & all Holden Special Vehicles - Holden's premium performance brand), they get the limited slip diff, however that is a very loose term & they become single spinners early in their life.....
A few guys here have broken them, but you do have to try. A popular choice is to replace the centre with a Kaaz, which seems to keep all but the angriest of heavily supercharged motors keep their diffs together.
A few have brokern prop shafts, but again - you really have to try.....

He said that the GTO has a Dana 44. Whatever that means.
Evidently, Torsen does not make a LSD that fits a Dana 44.

You are only 14 years late to the thread, the new style GTO is nothing but a re-badged Aussie crap car, does have a nice drive train but the rest of the car is crap, thus why it was only made for three years, Get you a real GTO, the real year GTO’s were made from 1964-1974

Old thread but answering the original question for fun...
The Dana 44 is the same strength as a 8.8, Better gear selection, and you can put a True Trac in it instead of the thorsen if a gear drive locker is your thing..
The 44 is up there with the 9" for one of the longest produced axles.
Yukon gear/ Randy's have all the bits and pieces..
The Dana Axle setup manual is one of the best ever written.. IMHO,,,
