Default Head bolt way too long

Hi everyone, I was I the process of installing my heads and my bolts all bottomed out with about 2 to 3 inches from the head. The holes are clean, I chased them and also measured with a thin tig welding rod and all the bolts came up equal length at around 4 inches (don't quote me on it) it's a 5.7 ls1 block, unsure of year but I thought it would use the same bolts that I use in my 5.3's (very long). What bolts do I need? Looking for arp brand. Thanks, any quick info will be appreciated so I can over night some. Thanks again

I googled the block tag, looks like it's a 2001. That doesn't make any sense, I thought they moved to all the same bolts after 2004..

yep, same thread and diameter of the long bolt. Bolts are just too long. All the holes have the same depth, even the outer one's. I did a bit more research, it's a 2001 motor pulled out of an 2002 camaro

If they're all the same length...then they're all the same length. Get the '04 up bolts.

are the 04+ bolts much shorter in length than the 03-? The 03- bolts I have are extremely long.

the 2 bolts that bolt on to the outside of the head (03- year) seem to around the correct size

thanks

Dang, not sure what it could be. Grade 11 bolts that will fit and just say **** it? Probably not. I measured every hole, so I doubt every bolt that was pulled off snapped in the block (is that common?)

Did some measuring. Here's what I found
This is one of the shorter outer bolts, the orange line on the left is how long the bolt is when torqued all the way down in the hole. I measured 2.75 inches from the block deck to the bottom of the hole. It was 2.75 inches deep in every single hole, the inner ones and outer. Im kind of confused. Any ideas?

those are the same ones. You see the shorter one's on the out side? Those are just about the right size for all the holes

I just measured the depth of the holes, every single one was the exact same as the others, so that leads me to believe that there are no broken bolts, debris..etc in there, so I'm stumped at this point. I've never seen anything like it. No one has ever had an issue like this before?

You need an 04+ set. 04 and up are all short. 03 and bellow are short and long.
The motor was probably replaced under warranty sometime after 2004 and it got a 04+ ls6. Bam problem solved.

so the 04+ uses the small bolts for all holes? I thought they all used the large bolts. If that's the case with them using the small bolts, I'm ordering them tonight
