ThatKevinC's '04 CTS-V Progress Log
After years and years of FWD turbo 4bangers, I finally made the switch to a RWD V8. In March 2016, I decided I needed to move on to a new platform. I've always preferred sedans, and have favoured domestics. The CTS-V1 seemed like a perfect car for me. I started looking into them and watching the market to see what was out there. After running into a few issues with getting rid of my last car, I was finally ready for a V1 a year later. All of a sudden, there were none for sale. The very odd one that would pop up was either in rough shape, high mileage, and/or asking well above what it was worth. I was starting to give up when I came across a very clean V1 for a great price. Unfortunately, it was 1,800km away from me. So began the back and forth with the owner, who sent me roughly 100 pictures and as much information as he could. A month later, we came to an agreement on the price and logistics.
Last weekend, my dad and I drove three provinces over, picked up the car, and drove it back. The car was exactly how the owner had described it, and I was more than happy. I had no issues on the way home and even managed to get some decent fuel mileage.
2004 CTS-V
86,400km
Kooks 1 3/4 LT's
Billy Boat 3" exhaust w/ xpipe
Hurst STS
UMI Performance engine mount
Creative Steel rear subframe bushings
More Performance "cold" air intake
These are all just terrible phone pics, when I finish getting the car on the road I will take some proper pictures.
Spent an hour and a half at the licensing office today, but they were being extremely difficult because it's an out of province car. I have to wait on a letter, then I can get it registered and attach the plates.
I will most likely be leaving the car as it is this summer, and over winter/spring pick up an intake mani, cam, and then tune of course. But in order to do that I want to make sure I have the money for supporting maintenance and a clutch.
I'm bringing the car to get cut and polished this weekend hopefully, and within the next few weeks I want to throw it on the dyno to see where it stands.

Welcome to the club! From personal experience I would look into addressing transmission mount, carrier bearing on driveshaft and the rear end above all else and I am certain you will forever love this car.

Some pics from the weekend. Had a friend clay bar, cut, polish, and wax the V.
These tips were BLACK, we'll see how long until they are again.
Decided to do a small pull with the Coyote in the above pics. 90 (kph) roll, 3rd gear. Dead even all through 3rd and most of 4th. Near the top he started pulling but we ran into traffic. It was much better for the V than I thought it would be. Once I wire in my dash cam I'll give him another go.

Strapped the V down to a dynojet earlier today. Wanted to know where it was at.
1st run: 360/350
2nd run: 360/xxx
*put a fan over the bay for about 5 minutes*
3rd run: 366/xxx
The numbers were much higher than I expected, and out of excitement, I didn't pay attention to the computer, which was only displaying HP for the last two runs and not torque. So I'm going to message the shop and ask if they kept the runs on file.
I was going in expecting 330-340whp, so I'm pretty happy. AFR's look like they were just hovering above 13:1, and the shop said it was safe. I've always been taught to stay no leaner than 12.5:1. Found a thread on this forum talking about 12.9-13.1 being a safe zone.
This is a screenshot from the first run, only one I have showing the torque.
And here's the link to the video

Hood struts were both shot, replaced those earlier this week.
Random shot of the bay
Really wanted to clean the inside of the wheels, as well as the calipers. Bought new lugs as well. Waiting on one of my other cars to sell, so until then I'm stuck focusing on the small things.

Time for a much needed oil change. Went with 6L of Mobil1 5w30, and an M1-206 filter (long).
Very different to me, the pan is so far back compared to a fwd 4 cyl. Used to be able to just slide my hand in and do it all.
Mileage for my own reference, I'm not going to trust the OEM oil life moniter.

I had to go weigh a truck for work today, so I figured I might as well throw the V on the scale to see. It had a full tank of gas, as well as a few personal belongings.
1,760 kg / 3,880 lbs
