Default Nitto Drag Radial Not Hooking

Hey guys! I'm having a lot of trouble hooking at the track. I run 315 nitto nto5r on the rear of my car and I can't seem to hook to well. I started at 25psi and worked my way down to around 18 and I was still spinning. Yes, I was heating them up pretty well. It talked to a few people and they said they have had bad luck hooking with these tires. I'm contemplating buying some m/t's, but not sure if I should! It may be driver error as I'm pretty new to the drag racing world. I leave at around 3k rpms! I also have 4.10 gears in the car! Maybe I'm letting off the clutch too fast! Thanks for any input!

I have the same size NT05R and have the same issue. Run a 4.10 gear as well. How much power are you making?

425hp. I also have nitrous in the vehicle, but have yet to spray at the track. I only have a 50 shot as of right now!

When i had those nitto 05r they would hook on street but not track. I had better luck with the 555r. I find the 11 inch wide rim and 315 combo had no flex. To stiff.
315x35x17 555r on a 9.5"wheel hooked well for me.
1.64 with a 6spd

Nitro drag radials are a joke imo iv had both 555r and nt05r until I deceid to man up and get a real tire . A mt s/s or a Hoosier dr2 are my choice for street use. I personally had the MT SS and was able to get consistent 1.5x 60s low 10.x passes spraying out the hole. I now have MT PBR and they are awesome but those aren't anywhere close to street legal lol.

Yeah, I've heard quite a few people call nitto drag radials a joke. Guess it's time for some new rubber.

The best 60 ft I could get with NTO5R's was a 1.750 , but mostly 1.8's .

I think I know why! Never installed relocation brackets for rear control arms.

The best I ever got out of my nittos was a 1.70 and it was inconsistent. It drove me nuts. Put on the same size et street and took it down to 1.50 hooking every single pass. Huge difference. Since your manual I really would suggest a set of bias plys. Manuals are hard to hook on a radial. Since you aren't gonna want to drive a bias ply everyday pick you a set of rear wheels up and swap them when you need to. There is no tire that does everything perfect, if you try you are only gonna be disappointed. Get a dedicated tire for the purpose. I run a full slick now and love that I hook every pass even when others spin. It's all about application.

Thanks for the info! Yeah, that's what I'm going to do.
