Default Can Just valve springs be swapped out?

I had a suspicion and it was confirmed. I found only one broken valve spring the most forward on driver side, I forget what number. Motor is stock, does anyone recommend a brand of springs that will fit stock 243 07 heads? Thanks!

Yes, if you get a cylinder pressurizer basically just hose to that will spin into your spark plug hole and provide constant pressure.

This will hold the valve up as you remove the spring and keepers and what not.

I have never been able to get that to work. Maybe my compressor is to small, rings too loose, but I've always had to remove the head to get the spring off.

I can do it with my 35 gallon compressor that keeps a minimum of 105 psi. Never tried it on a car with shot rings though.

Worst case scenario for the branland is take the plug out and fill the cylinder with rope then turn the engine over until the piston pushes the rope up and holds the valves in place

If this is stock, just put in the GM yellow beehives.

Just remove the rocker arms and the air hose adapter in the spark plug hole works. Just hit the top of the valve with a SOFT (brass, aluminum, hard rubber) hammer to loosen the keepers prior to trying to take off the spring.

I'd also recommend plugging the oil drain holes and using a magnet so the keepers dont accidentally fall into the bottom of the engine. Just a shop towel laid around the head will work fine.

If you want something much better than stock, go with a set of PSI 1511ML beehives.

Thank you all for the replies. With 198.5K I'm just going to keep her running with some stock-like springs.

Stock replacement springs should be just fine. I believe they revised the part from the yellow version of your OEM springs. Is yours an 04? Some of the earlier model LS6s had some problems breaking springs due to the more aggressive LS6 cam (compared to other stockers). I replaced mine with OEM when I had to pull a head at 104k during my longtube install.

Once on the compression stroke with both valves closed you could just fill the combustion chamber with enough nylon rope to hold valves up. Might want to consider this option because what if the air didn't work?

Thanks, I have an 07. The Air works AFTER you take rocker arm off lol, as it closes both valves.

What were your symptoms that you checked for a broken spring? I suspect I have a broken one someplace but haven't pulled the valve covers yet. I have funny idle and some a light ticking that comes and goes at a idle. I have high miles too and thought maybe the intake was caked with carbon so I used a intake spray cleaner with the engine running. When I went to drive it afterwards I heard a metallic sound like a valve lightly hitting a piston a few times. Engine still runs fine, I'm going to pull the valve covers off this week. Just wondered what you experienced.
