If HP is all you care about, a 2wd truck with a lq4 and 4l80 will be your easiest option. If you care about dragstrip numbers or handling, then you have an exponentially higher number of factors to consider.

full size truck doesnt have as much room as you would think, but its enough to get a lot of piping in there.
i have one with twin t4s and full 3.5 inch downpipes. i could easily fit two of just about any reasonably sized turbos on it without a problem.
theres also a decent sized water intercooler and a second radiator and all the original ac in place.
and that platform gives you the opportunity for AWD which may or may not work better for your use case

its heavy as **** though, mine is like 4800lbs with me in it.

anything LS3 or LSA and manual with engine bay room would be cheapest.

the purchase price of that is probably "not small" though. crunch the numbers on purchase and build of something like that

vs.

purchase something much cheaper and older like a fox body or Camaro adding on the cost of buying much more parts than above option and much more time to build

stock LSA, cam and springs with twin 62m - 66mm T4 or V band turbos on E85 will EASY do 1000hp

if you think you can hook 1000 wheel on the street, the most direct route is probably a fox body ford or an FC body mazda

There isn't much room in a C5 for turbos. It can be done, obviously, but it gets crowded under the hood. Hence turbos in the fenders, under the back bumper, next to the flywheel, etc, etc.

If you are trying to race on "stock suspension," a fox or f-body cannot be beaten. Fox bodies are dirt cheap, parts are widely available and they are much lighter than an f-body from factory.

An FC RX7 is far from "The most direct route." Ask me how I know...

The first time I saw a fox with an ls in it I thought it was cool. Now when I go to the track for “street night” 75 percent of the cars are Fox body and I can’t stand them. Win lights are what matter and there are no style points so I get it. When I’m at the track with my slow gto I watch guys walk by Fox bodies running 4’s (1/8th mile) and stop to ask about my slow car all night.

currently building a 2000 s10 with a 5.3 single 76mm turbo with a 4l80e with a little spray. Tuner said on low boost without sparay we should easily make 900 and able to turn it up to 1300+ depending on our expected life span lol

He lied. Unless your definition of low boost is 30lbs.

true. It really depends on what your goals are. my 11 sec turbo squarebody gets attention from all sorts of folks, at the track, at the grocery store, at restaurants. For me it's a rolling resume for my fabrication work. But for the money I have into it, I could be running low 9's in a fox.

i mean motor is studded top and bottom with everything built to handle 1200. The tuner said is a well know ls builder in the state and has built similar set ups with low boost being 12-18lbs and high boost about 24-26lbs. Its been a fight lol anything over 800 and we'll be happy. When its done ill try to post dyno sheets and stats.

Hard to find a "nice" "dirt cheap" fox these days... In my area anyway. I’d surf “racingjunk.com” and find a good light weight roller that has most of the hard work done. Then drop in the cheapest 2005+ 4.8/5.3 U can fine (grab a couple engines for spares). Run bone stock long blocks with the best top end you can afford. Slap a VSR S480 on it and run tons of boost. Whatever boost number it takes to hit your goal. Use a good ECU. MS3 gold box is the best/easiest for the $ VS features IMO. Has the traction control, boost by speed etc to help with traction.

Another vote for f-body here. My latest was the cheapest running one I could find online, $4500, parted for some coin for the build and the sky is the limit.

I want to see the compressor map for this single 76mm that will make 1k hp on low boost on a 5.3. On A 5.7 iron block studded top and bottom arp I'm every hole custom cam th400 95 s10 stripped 8.8 and e.t. street pro tires with a s476 and I didn't hit 1k hp with a high stalled auto it's not as easy on a dyno. I spray dual meth nozzles and intercooled

My FC gets tons of attention at the track and on the street which is cool but I didn't build it to get attention. The fact that it is a ladder bar car keeps me from being able to compete in pretty much every class except unlimited, which I'm far to slow for.

18lbs might get you around 700 through that 4l80, no way a 76 will make 1200 through one. I'd be cautious of a tuner that blows smoke up your ***.

Maybe 1200 if the turbo exhaust side and engine operates efficiently to 8300rpm and iat < 120F. Probably need 100% meth injection too.
