Default What Is The Stock LS1 Head Gasket Thickness?

This is for a 2000 LS1 Gen III 346 CID. This engine is in a 2000 C5 Corvette with no engine mods. Going to be replacing the stock head gaskets. Need to order the correct thickness for my replacements. What is the thickness of the original stock Head Gaskets?

Original is .052, if you order GM gaskets that is what you'll get.

The WS6store .045 gaskets are an awesome option. They give you a better quench and a bump in compression and they cost the same as OEM gaskets.

Thankyou so much for your quick reply. I was of the understanding that ".052" was the stock value but thought I would run it past people on here. I have the factory service manuals for my Vette but as far as I know they don't publish a thickness number. If they do, it's very hard to find. You know how crazy those manuals are laid out! Sheesh...….

I hear ya. That I'm aware of it isn't published in a manual. Around here we know of the thickness because people had to measure it.

You may see it advertised at .051 too on the stock ones.

And no problem, let us know if you have any other questions.

It's possible the original graphite gaskets that were used in 2000 were more like .056, at least if you search that number will turn up. Also, if you plug .056 into a spreadsheet with the right values for chamber size, bore, etc. for an LS1, you get a static compression ratio of 10.1, which is claimed to be correct for an LS1. If you plug in .052, the CR comes out as 10.2. I'm just using numbers that have been posted on here before.

Good info there. I didn't realize the graphite were a hair thicker, that explains why I didn't come up with the proper compression using .052 in the compression calculator.

Ive measured .053 to .051 for gm mls head gaskets. Both before and after install. Our rpmspeed are .045-.046 before install.
