Default Hooking up electronic oil pressure gauge

Can an auto meter oil psi gauge be wired up to the stock oil psi sender on an LS1? I have one swapped into my monte and currently running a mechanical gauge that I’d like to get rid of

I don’t believe the auto meter gauge will read correctly using the oem sending unit. Best bet is to use the included auto meter sending unit with a bolt on oil filter bypass adapter. You could remove the oem sending unit and install the auto meter sending unit there as well. But retaining the oem sending unit signal to the computer is nice if you ever do any troubleshooting or data logging in the future.

No, it won't work at all. You have to use the sender specifically for that gauge.

You could run an adapter plate on the oil cooler plate at the driver side of the block towards the rear and just above the oil pan, then put in your factory sender for the monte carlo and still have the factory gauge.

What year is the Monte Carlo? If its 1996 or later, you must keep the OE oil pressure sending unit and gauge intact. Otherwise, the car will throw a code or go into limp mode. You can add the autometer gauge too, but it needs its own sending unit. BTW, you have a reliable mechanical gauge, why would you change it?

can you log oil psi on a 2001 ecu? A friend of mine says you can’t and the factory one is only for the factory gauge

Yep can't log oil pressure unless you have the body control module that came from donor vehicle for you swap.
