Default Cam recommendation

I have an 02 ecsb Silverado 4x4 that I’m going to be putting an ls1 with 799 heads into and I have 2 options for cam choice. I have a Howard’s big daddy rattler ( Lift: .625 / .625, Duration @ .050: 242 / 250, Centerline: 103, LSA: 109) or a custom grind eps cam (LSA: 110
Center line: 107
Intake duration @.50: 230
Intake lift: 629
Exhaust duration: 244
Exhaust lift: 604) how would the drivability be with the Howard’s cam? Would it be a pain to tune?

They're both going to make your truck run and drive like absolute *** on the street.
It'll buck back and forth, stall out at lights, have 6-cylinder like off-idle torque, get 6 to 8 mpg, smell like raw fuel, and thats with a halfway decent tuner.

The 2nd cam is a lot smaller, and its still a very poor choice for a truck.

I'm with Joe, too much cam for a truck, I used a Howards ASA cam in mine which allows me to use LS6 yellow valve springs etc. With a stall and a good tuner it has pretty good manners and good torque FWIW

Thank you for the input! What would you recommend? I want and aggressive lopey idle but want it to perform good as well. It’ll be a stock bottom ls1 with 799s not sure if I want to mill them a little or not. 3200 stall and 3.73 gears for now. Possibly 4.10 in the future.

The ASA has 110 LSa so you get a good lope.https://ls1tech.com/forums/dynamomet...sa-dyno-s.html

You can use the 660 lift springs with a lower lift camshaft.
Your heads won't be able to take true advantage of a camshaft over .600 lift anyway.

WS6store has an ASA cam with .600/.600 lift

ASA cam will make more peak power, lope harder.

Both of those cams are way too much for a street driven truck. Think 218- 224 duration and not a lot over .600" lift, 112 or higher lsa. Those donkey cams will make it run like *** at lower revs, and kill low end torque, which is what a truck needs most.

Shhhhhhhh...... don't ruin it for him. Truck guys seem to think that heavy street trucks work best with race car cams.

This is gonna be my first engine build for my truck so I’m just trying to find what would work best. Im not too savy on what is too much and what “isn’t enough” . Would the asa be a good choice or should I keep looking?

There are thouisands of cam grinds for every taste, We have made reccommendations based on what we like, Your best bet would be talk to Texas Speed (they grind cams on site) or WS6 Store for their input. There are give and takes for every situations Good luck
