cammed 5.3
Been running a cammed 5.3 in my monte and noticed car doesn't feel like it has the power i feel like it should. I'm used to old school small blocks and this is my first go at ls engine. After looking around on here it looks like most people are running way more timing then i am running. I have a btr stage 3 cam with a 750 mechanical secondary holley and ive tuned carb and still feels a little low on power. Im using a 6014 box . Do u guys thing i should turn the timing up and see what happens?

Where is your timing now? You can't turn up timing unless a starting point is known. Things can get blown up that way......

I was going to take it to the track but they closed because they said track was to hot. The track near me is stupid and only opens when they want. After reading lots of others testing and timing i built a new timing table to see what it would do. Right now i have it set 0 rpm 13 degress, at idle 800/28 then slowly climbs to 33 at 3100. Looking around feels like a pretty safe timing table fro what ive been reading. I'm adding a wideband gauge tomorrow to make sure it doesn't go lean. If this doesn't seem like a safe chart let me know but car seems like it response way better then what it ever has.

I have a similar set up I’m running a proform 750 and a 228r tsp cam 5.3 car is running rich! anyway you could give me a starting point about what jetting your running and have you changed your air bleeds my jets are 70/80 right now and haven’t touched air bleeds. I’m also using a 6014 msd box using the ls1ho tune. I’m new to this page first post I’ve seen similar to my setup.

6500 rpm is where I have its set trying not to blow it up. It’s taking me 2 years to get this far and right now I have open hooker long tube headers and my afr gauge is all Over the place

my 5.7 with a btr stage 2 cam pulled to 7000-7100. You have a smaller motor and a bigger cam. I’d say it would want to go a bit higher than that.
my 5.3 99 Silverado with a stage one truck cam (212/218) pulled to 6500. Stock heads and intake.
my 5.7 with the small cam I have now, 222/233 pulls to 7000-7100 still.
my buddy had the same cam as you in his 5.3 in a camaro and hated it. Said it was way too big.
so there’s that.

Thanks I appreciate the help I’m new to motors in general this is my first build. Had help with the cam kit istall but everything else I’ve Been learning as I go might just get the exhaust finished and take the car to a dyno tuner if I can’t figure it out

I started the motor for the first time two weeks ago haven’t figured everything out yet just trying to break in the cam the whole car is a new setup it’s a 93 fbody with all 98 fbody parts and the 5.3 was a junkyard motor everything is new in the car that’s the only reason I haven’t been shifting at 7000 or higher my bad probably should of said this. But the car is by no means slow just very rich.

You don't need to "break in" the cam with roller lifters. Only with flat tappets. Old tech.
