Oil Cooler issues?

Oil Cooler issues? I just recently had a T fitting break on my 04 ls1 gto. For reference this t fitting sits right above the ac compressor has 3 lines that connect to I’m assuming the water pump, heater core, and the there’s the 3rd lower hose that runs under the motor. I was told that hose connects to the stock oil cooler and that instead of the just replacing the T fitting, I should run a straight hose (heater core-water pump) and bypass the oil cooler because at 150k miles the oil cooler could start mixing oil and coolant. If it’s true, how would I do that, and should I even do it to begin with?
