I have been running Goodyear Eagle GT-II's for years. All this time I thought I was getting better traction from them but I've never really been happy with the handling. Part of the problem is that I have factory 16x7" rims that I am not giving up for anything. The Goodyears were a fair amount too wide for the seven inch rims.
Last week I bought Pirelli Scorpion Zeros in a 275/60 R16 size that works out to 29" diameter. I cannot say enough about the way these tires handle. I no longer get squeal or scuffing making low speed turns. At high speed they don't feel like they're folding over like the Eagles, and they are not swishy either. Traction is incredible.
I know there are a lot of us out there running 16" rims that would like to see more performance from a 16" tire. These are the ones. They are spec'd for a 7.5-9.5" rim, but they fit fine on a 7" rim. Speed rating is V - 149mph at minimal load, 130mph at maximum rated load of 2200+ pounds each. I have no long term data to post on these yet obviously, but it's always been my experience with new tires that they get even better after some break-in. The notion these actually stand a chance of getting even BETTER is mind-boggling. I'm quite happy with them.
Pirelli earned my vote.

Man why couldnt you post this up last week? I have a 2001 Dodge Ram that is lowered 2/4. I have 16X9 wheels and have been looking for some new tires. For the past 3 years I have been running BFGs 275/65-16. Only BFG makes this size and I loved the way they looked on the truck. I needed new tires and last month I went to get a set at Discount Tire. They told me that BFG was back ordered on the tires and it wouldn't be till Dec. till I could get a set. I also hear that they are on strike so who knows when I could get a set. I started looking around for something close to what I had and couldn't find anything I really liked. Everything was too skinny for my liking or they were too tall. I ended up getting a set of Yokohamas that are 265/70-16s. They are ok for now but I would love to find something else that is not as tall as these are. they are 31.7" tall. My old tires were 30" tall. This may not seem like much but I can tell a huge differance.
Hope you like those new tires.
Hope you like those new tires.
