Default All motor Guys with 402-418ci whats your Recipe for 9s

trying to get into the 9s and I belive my top end is holding me back. Runs out of power at 6400rpm.

I have ported fast 102/102 setup. cnc poted ls3 heads
cam is 239/254 624.624 113+3 lsa. 12 to 1 compression.

IMO the valvetrain should not be floating I have dual springs with lunati linkbar lifters and chromoly pushrods.

i see simular cars and setups trapping 130 and running low 10s with worse 60fts.

Lol the six speed. IMO never happen with a full weight car and that top end. MAYBE with a good bit of weight out, 4.56's, 28" stiff wall slicks, and a super victor with a 4 barrel TB. MAYBE.

Those cars you see trapping 130 with a FAST intake with a worse 60 ft more than likely is running a aftermarket head such as TFS or a AFR head I'm willing to say. Every LS3 headed motor I seen trapping over 130 n/a was in a lighter foxbody with suspension tweaks.

What's your best 60ft?
How much do your car weigh?
What's your best e.t and mph so far ?

I've seen a TFS 235 headed on a 403ci go 10.3 in the quarter in a 2000 6 speed Z28... however it was running a single plane intake and a pair of Hoosier slicks.

blkSS I specificly said my top end is holding me back, and then you tell me it wont happen because of my top end LOL. the 6 spd has nothing to do with it. ive seen a z06 run 9.3 with a 6 spd and stock bottom end. I am already mid 10s and Im just trying to squeeze as much as I can out of the motor because I want every advantage. It is not the only thing I am changing up. I have about 6k in suspension and weight reduction parts waiting to go on and plan a descent amount of weight reduction.

currently the best 60ft is a 1.52 and thats on a koni/strano spring shock setup. definetly not good for drag racing. I had to run 10psi in the tires to get it to hook. I currently switced to viking double adj coilovers and hopefully can run quit a bit more pressure in the tires. I also added a Drag bar. hoping 60 ft drops in the low 1.4s maybe high 1.3s.

car is mostly full weight but i plan to lose about 200 to 300 pounds here soon. and best et is a 6.84 at 102 in the 8th. I know the 6 spd is holding me back and plan for a 4l80e when funds allow out.

I have no problem switching up top end I just want a combo that will make more power in higher rpms and wont cause me to lose windshield wipers.

I think 9s can be done with the changes I am making if not I will throw a 150 shot on it LOL.

i keep hearing about the TFS 235s, I have no problem switching up my whole top end to cathedral. I eventually plan to go boost in the next year or 2 anyways. maybe ic an find someone with a more race style setup that wants to sell or trade for a more street friendly one

It's been proven on the track the tfs 235/245 head is quicker down the track compared to a LS3 head...
It's a guy on here name Mike C. That proved just that on a 402ci motor... also Pat G Will tell you the same as he tune cars and spec cams for a living.

if I keep the current engine I may definetly switch over to TF 245s and single plane setup. but eventually I want a 427lsx for boost so not sure if its worth buying a setup I will just sell later. I may just get a bigger cam with a tighter lobe seperation and see even with the fast 102 and ls3 heads I should see power to 7k

I run Mast 245 Cathedral port heads. Box stock.
I ran TFS 215's on my 382. I was going to run some custom TFS 235's from Tooley, but at the time these Mast heads just came out. Next big thing to hit the market, but no one runs them.
I don't know how I got my car in the 9's, just lucky I guess.

im sure the stalled and braked th 400 has alot to do with it. im still on a t56. horsepower wise I think you only make about 40 to 60 more than me. i know i can get there just trying to find the most econimical way without changing the entire setup

It looks like you have a pretty solid setup. Ditch the FAST and put a Vic Jr and 4150 TB, switch to and auto with a brake and gear the **** out of it. A good race weight to shoot for is around 3200-3300 w/driver.

Does edelbrock make a super victor for the LS3 heads, I'd get that over the Jr.
I'd leave the cam for now and see how much the intake and 4150 helps.

They do make a super victor for the ls3 heads with either a 4150 flange or 4500 flange. If I wasn't going to spray the house down, would put more gear in my car and a N/A cam and make a run for 9's with a 402. Im sure its very doable if its not your daily driver. That would be a rough car to drive everyday.
