So I'm Looking to join the 9 second club... My new motor is complete and is more than capable of a 9 second pass, but this is a street car, and I will not compromise on the drivability by going with a shorter gear or a looser coverter. I currently have 3.42's and a stock converter which is being swapped out for 3.73 gears and a 2800 stall Vigilante converter. I also have a custom torque arm and new lower control arms. Edit: I have only removed about a 150 pounds. So my question is how low of a 60 foot time will I need to break the 9 second barrier, and will my new gears and stall be aggressive enough to make that possible? |
You will need to be in the high 1.2 to low to mid 1.3 range to run 9's. Good luck. Coach |
id think it depends what kinda power you have up top..if you can trap 145+ then you can have a softer 60' |
I was running 9.9x @ 135 with a 1.40-1.39 60 foots. 1.25-1.27 60's now is good for very low 9s @ 147 or so. Depending on what car weighs but with an NA engine a 2800 isnt going to be enough. I use a 5000 converter and a 3.70 w/28" tires. If you drove this car you would never think it has this loose of a converter, matter of fact it 'feels' tighter driving around then my old vig2800 years ago.. Only one way to find out for sure though - good luck with it :thumb: |
. Agree ^^ more around 1.40-1.45 depending on weight & HP. A motor with enough HP for 9's don't usually like less than 5000 ish stall. At least none I've had or helped with ran good. As said, only 1 way to know. High 1.20's put my slow car in the 8's. . |

Keep in mind that about two hundred pounds has been removed so far. |

Big difference between 5000 and 700hp though. Whats more impressive is when a top fuel car shuts off at 150' out and still runs a 7-8 second ET, at like 50mph ;) Getting in the 9s with a crappy 60' (say 1.6x) takes a shitload of power, most of the ET is made in the first 200' or so. Best thing to do is look through the timeslip database and you will see pretty similar 60 foots/mph. Then go check out some import sites and look for the 9.90 @ 160mph timeslips and look at the 60 foots. But hitting it with a 250 shot of nitrous changes everything lol. if you can hook it (good luck on 26" tires unless you have some very well prpped tracks around) nines shouldnt be a problem at all.. |
good luck, 2800 stall wont do it |

mine had a 1.429 60 ft. on my 9.91 pass. |
Running 602RWHP on LT1 with a soft 200RWHP hit. Car was 3,6xxLbs. Last time out the car had the best 60ft ever at 1.45 pulling down a 330 a tenth harder then it did on the 10.0 pass's. In my car it will take a 1.40-1.45 to get it done. This is spinning to a hook just past the tree and trapping over 136. |
