Default Hey you 31" big boy's come in

how much room do you guy's like to see between the tire and the body of the car. I'm going from a 29.5 to a 31" and am curious how much room to leave for growth. I'm specifically looking at the front of the tire (closest to the door where it kinda curves down)

ya a mini tub. But I started looking at where the closest point to rubbing the tire is, and it looks like towards the front of the tire "closest to the door" is where I might need to hack more out. I know mickey say's.... Mickey Thompson slicks will grow approximately 1 to 1 ½ @ 150mph. Is that fairly accurate? So does anyone have like a finger width "or less" of room between the tire and the body without any rubbing? Just trying to get a feel for what i might be able to get away with.

Yeah 1 -1 1/2" of total growth but that growth in relation to the center of the rim changes during the run. Growth is more in the front of the rim during the run and more in the rear of the rim when you start slowing down. At that mph I would think that a minimum of 2 1/2- 3 inches would be needed in front and back of the tire.
Wonder what Madman would say?

So i guess what i am asking is obviously the middle of the thread width grows the most, so does that mean that the outer part of the tread actually will shrink and transfer the "growth" to the middle of the tread? picture a balloon? Because the closest part of the tire to the body is towards the outside of the tread. I guess I should cut a little more out, then run it on jacks with the rear supported and see if it rubbs hey? I guess that is the only way to know for sure.

yes they grow in the middle and the sides contract in.
Keep in mind what the tire may rub against if the car gets out of shape, especially on the big end with the growth combined with the wheel moving side to side within the tire.
post some pics of the tires mounted.
